[OC] Exploring How Men and Women Perceive Each Other's Attractiveness: A Visual Analysis (archive)

A post appears in /r/dataisbeautiful a totally legit-looking graph of how men rate women's attractiveness and the other way round. This gets thousands of updoots and hundreds of 2/10 redditor men console each other that it's completely normal, and in fact slightly above the mode, for a woman to rate a man 2/10. Very few members of this supposed data enthusiast community notice any of the blatant warning signs about this chart, including:
  • No source
  • No methodology at all (what even is attractiveness in this context?)
  • No sample size mentioned
  • No sample populations mentioned (are they asking 18 year olds to rate 90 year olds?)
  • Mathematically perfect gaussian distributions
  • The male curve is heavily truncated by the zero-point, but retains the shape of a perfect uncropped gaussian, which you'd never see in a real distribution
  • No error bars
  • A smooth distribution for presumably discrete data (0-10)
One user tries to find the source, and it appears that the sources are resampled from different ratings to become ratings out of 10, and not taken from an actual distribution at all.

Another user finds that the original source of this "data" is from OKCupid (so to state the obvious, is instantly useless, as you're sampling from people who have been unsuccessful in finding a partner by definition). Apparently it's even worse though, since mutual high ratings on OKC would result in an automatic match, so women who didn't want to be fire-hosed by high-rating-spamming "hallo beautiful madam" men were literally incentivised to rate extremely cautiously.

Finally, it turns out that the OP took a single statistic for each sex and asked chat GPT to essentially make up distributions from these two numbers, so the end result really is simply made up.

Conclusion: From their ability to take this data science atrocity at face value and willingness to believe its thesis, we can deduce that the average redditor really is horrendously unattractive to women. This is what we call "confirming the null hypothesis" (hopefully no relation :null:).

If you want me to talk about the spelling bee (which sounds awful tbh) I need clips. I can't find it.

I will also accept any and all pizza related content.
This is the Spelling Bee stream, the call starts at about 23 minutes. I don't think there's much for you to say about it, it's a lot of Ralph being antagonistic with Salvo & Jesse PS - alongside a single mother who embarasses herself for attention (particularly towards the end):

Larry David, a famous Jewish comedian, assaulted a puppet. This caused significant upset to irrelevant, sensitive homosexual Wil Wheaton.

Here's the Simpsons paedophile reading Wheaton's description and his feelings of the event
When I noticed his thread had recent posts and was bored enough to look at it (no offense to any big Will Wheaton thread regs, he's just kind of a boring fag) I almost pissed myself laughing. This should be included, it's such a crazy reaction to just a pretty mundane dumb bit.

about 15 years ago okcupid was one of the more popular dating sites, if this is the ok cupid blog article I'm familiar with, it's from a consistent polling of their aggregate data for hard, quantifiable patterns.
At the time it was basically the dating equivalent of what tiktok is to short video clips today pulling aggregated back-end data to aggregate real user behavior.
When you have a userbase that large, and the service you provide represents about half the market, you can assume a normal distribution among your users.

Also, your entire post just drips with the kind of partnerless bitterness of the incel/femcel variety.
The vast majority of steady couples/marriages are now the result of online dating.

It reads like cope & sneed.

If you mean Ralph ragequitting this post has two clips from when he joined, the first demanding to be allowed to write the words down, and then when he fails to spell entrepreneur trying to get the guy's channel banned via repeating slurs even though he was also doing his own stream at the time and got banned from a bunch of stuff pulling the same trick while on stream a week or two ago.

He then argued it was a violation of spelling bee rules because his special needs were not accommodated

Exclusive: Tucker Carlson Interviews Vladimir Putin
PLEASE tell me Josh has listened to the Putin interview. It's so unfathomably based, holy fucking nigger shit. He actually said "let me give you a brief history of where ukraine came from, it will only take 30 seconds or one minute" and then went on to talk expansively about Russian history from the year 862.

"In 862 When the Dansk people of Novgorod invited a Varangian prince, Rurik, from Scandinavia to reign..."
-Actual quote

"I beg your pardon but I'm losing track... could you tell me what era this is in? The polish oppression of ukraine."
"It was in the 13th century."
