uh for me joking and saying and encouraging are all the same because I personally think jokes are more powerful at -- at normalizing behavior like when I'm making jokes about something I mean it. I just can't get away with saying it without calling it a joke in polite society so I don't
really distinguish between any of those things.

He was a volunteer in the 14th SS, an ethnically Ukrainian formation.
It's kinda funny because he's technically a Polish citizen, as he was born in a part of Ukraine that belonged to Poland at the time, so the Polish Government tried to extradite him after the parliament scandal, but the Ukrainians just ignored them.

For what it's worth the 14th is far from the worst SS division, no enlisted men were ever charged for war crimes and it never really came up during the investigations. The veteran in question is also not suspected of any war crimes.

Probably late. But to add some historic context to this.

The Ukranian's were placed in SS Brigades because only the SS was allowed to recruit foreigners. They were choosing to fight with the German's against the Soviets, because Stalin had just forced a famine on them. That whole Holodomor. So they had a clear reason for hating Stalin and the Russians.

The Ukranians instead got sent to France to fight the Americans and the British. The Uke's had no beef with either and had signed up to shoot Russians. They had also figured out by now that their German SS officers were just as bad as the Russians. So upon arriving in France they shot their SS Officers in the back and joined the French Resistance.

The point being, be careful throwing around the blind cries of "Nazi" in Eastern Europe. Things were much more complicated and nuanced. And the locals have their own POV of it all. We in the west were not faced with a choice between Hitler or Stalin, and who was the lesser evil?

Benefit of the doubt, since he's had so many problems with audio lately; maybe some settings aren't getting saved or a button on his keyboard mysteriously rebinded itself to mute/unmute and doesn't give an audio/visual indicator that it's been pressed. Or maybe the machine spirit in his computer trooned out and now hates him. Either is just as likely.

I'd like to inform/remind everyone that in 2010, the Mcdouble was on the dollar menu, but it now costs $4.29. If Mcdonald's were keeping pace with "official" inflation figures, a Mcdouble would currently cost $1.44. I feel like my brain is melting, because the percentage of the cost that's outpacing inflation that I'm getting is just too fucking insane.
