Let's say you're a boy that's 14, going through puberty (overactive dick) and you see a 16 year old being sexualized. Odds are, you won't care....or at least your shlong won't. If it reacts and you start fapping to anime/hentai then you're probably not going to stop and next thing you know, you're 25 years old and are still getting wood from underage fictional characters.

Your mistake is treating anime as a genre rather than a medium. Replace anime with tv, or film, or graphic novels, and your sentence makes as much sense (and may or may not be as accurate). The problem isn't anime; it's a lack of parental supervision over the activities of their children, coupled with a peculiar belief that "drawn" = "kids stuff", when that was only ever really the case in the US, and only for a relatively short period.

That and shameless coomers, but they've always existed in some sense. They need to be pilloried back into their basements. There's nothing wrong with enjoying weird shit, as long as you keep it locked away.

I disagree. It is hard to hear, but until Josh I had no idea alot of this stuff was happening. He has changed my mind on a few topics over the years, and made me question alot of my politics.
It may be a bummer to hear, and it is rage inducing, but if no one says anything then there is no sowing the seeds of push back. My favorite streams are a combination of informative stories, good or bad, and a healthy dose of cow content.

It also makes me think of CS Lewis' space trilogy, which was really novel at the time for being one of (if not the) first mainstream science fiction stories where humans were kinda the bad guys (or at least not the heroic adventures stomping primitive alien monsters like in Welles)
more specifically in the second book, Perelandra, Lewis presents a scientist character who disbelieves in all spirituality but thinks all creation is a great single "life force" meant to evolve and survive like a perverted kind of Nietzschean creation. As he comes to his grand conclusion that he will become the avatar of this secular spirit of "blind, inarticulate purposiveness", he invites the spirit of this force into himself (not even necessarily supposing it is an actual sentient spirit, I think he kinda more thinks of it as his own ego) but in so doing becomes possessed by the evil spirit and, while never changing physically, contorts into the "Un-Man".
The really disturbing thing about this transformation is that Lewis doesn't make it out like his body is possessed by some new spirit with the original one fighting to break free. Rather, he implies that the two have become one- that his ideas so totally corrupted his mind and soul that he's completely indistinguishable from a demonic entity, in the darkest and most horrible way he got what he wished for. In this way, devils are not only real by themselves, but also create (or pervert) living beings just as evil and demonic as the spirits through people that willingly think and act like them.

I think society, but tranny stuff specifically, is a lot like that. We're blindly cruising along thinking at most "jeez, what a freak" but fail to consider that when a thing thinks demonically and acts demonically, it will in time look demonic too, but also down to the core BE demonic.
Here is all three of the books 1 2 3 for anyone interested, they're disturbingly prophetic, especially the last one.

Scientific America is not a reliable source, and any research about child molesters is highly confounded by the fact that the societal reaction until like the 70s was just to conflate it entirely with fags and/or pretend it isn't even real because it's too uncomfortable.

My daughter is 12, and she recently asked me to buy her a manga. She didn't have any title in mind, she just wanted to have a new manga to read. Her only stipulations were that she didn't want things that were primarily about fights or romance.
She's so far read Yotsubato (if you don't know, a very wholesome manga about a little girl having fun childhood adventures with her dad and their neighbors), Chi's Sweet Home (about a family adopting a kitten), and the Little Witch Academia manga (since she liked the show), as well as a volume of another witch manga (Witch Hat Atelier) that my sister gave her. All of them I was familiar with, or checked, and are at the very least harmless.

So I went looking. All recommendations online and by store clerks for her age are... fight mangas or romance mangas. My Hero Academia, One Piece, Demon Slayer, etc, and a bunch of flowery love triangle, love confession, and worse, gay love triangle confession mangas that frankly all blur together in my mind. She even outright told one bookstore clerk "what do you have for me that's not about romance" and the guy recommended this thing about a girl and a guy publishing a magazine... after he mistook her love confession for a business proposal or something.

FUCK.

But here we come to the topic at hand: there's stuff that may have fights or romance but they're not the main focus. One manga that she'd heard of was Komi Cannot Communicate. Premise sounded nice enough, artstyle looked harmless... I read a few chapters and yeah, this seems ok AH, there's a character that's a girl but the protagonist remembers being a boy? There's a girl who's infatuated with the main girl and wants to be her dog? Yeah no fuck this.
Oh there's a Splatoon manga. She loves Splatoon! Let's see, oh it's just comedy, that seems good, AH why are half the jokes about the male squid kids ending up naked or half naked? Censored, of course, by a cartoon squid where the dicks would be, but still.
Dr. Stone, at least she can learn a bit of science and how things work OH YEAH I just remembered the author draws everyone's bodacious bodies in glistening detail at every possible chance.
And so on and so forth for 99% of titles supposedly for her age range.

I can't even stick with authors, because if I give her the Yotsubato's author other manga, Azumanga Daioh, it has all these jokes about breast envy, a dyke girl, the drunk and belligerent female teacher, and the blatantly pedophile male teacher.

My point is, I know I'm apprehensive and some (not all) of what I've described is probably fine for a kid her age, but what the fuck is it with Japan and putting that kind of shit in things intended for children? Cultural differences and all that, different attitudes towards the body, etc, but fuck, man. Shit like this is probably why they've got so many pedophiles.

crime rates across all metrics skyrocketed in the late 60's and had been a steadily rising problem throughout the 70s and 80s. it's not until that reached a fever pitch in the late 80's/start of 90's that tough-on-crime politicians (on both sides) rose to prominence and through them (as well as a number of other societal factors) violent and abuse-related crime rates began to drop. Likewise, reporting, surveillance, and documentation for abuse against children has increased infinitely, as well as social awareness and taking the issue seriously, hence why the communities where it remains most prevalent (native and black) are those with the lowest outward transparency and access to help.
the drop in crime rates is a general trend but it is also worth pointing out that sexual abuse against minors has not fallen at anywhere near the same rate as other crimes- which have dropped anywhere from 60 to 80 percent- while the best estimates for child sexual abuse are about a 40% drop. And, unlike a murder, mugging, and to lesser extent rape, the reporting mechanisms are still dogshit and best estimates think more than half of sexual crimes go unreported to ANY authority, let alone proper police/CPS handling. The recent drop (since 2020) is also completely unclear as the pandemic nuked normal society, but I'm more than a little suspicious of the data analysts announcing that a crime mostly committed by close family members dropped when families were all locked in together away from prying eyes.

What's more, to claim anime even correlates to this (and I'm not even sure it does, as major drop begins early 90s and I'm pretty sure anime was out well before then) is a monstrously ignorant statement that's a spit in the face to the countless people who spent their lives campaigning for awareness of CSA and tireless efforts by law and community activists to root it out.
