It's kinda based. Bakshi took the furry's fantasy and made it so miserable he made him scratch out his own OC. It would be like a troll getting Chris to murder Sonichu.

Not to get into that rabbit hole, with Bakshi and John Kricfalusi (creator of Ren and Stimpy, unapologetic pedophile and abuser). Robert Crumb was also a strange weirdo, but I enjoy a lot of his stuff.



Furries were always around in some form; as soon as the first person sold a comic book with animals acting human, some dude was jacking it. Horny freaks don't need it to be explicit, they'll read sex into anything. I'm sure furries loved Fritz and a shared love of it probably helped them form their first big communities in the 80s, but combination of things - Disney also released Robin Hood in 1973 which I still see sick furry freaks cite today so I think it was just as big an influence.

That is to say it is a decent film, I remember enjoying it. Agree with other people's assessment of Bakshi, he makes interesting stuff even if it doesn't always hit the mark.

It's not even the first uterine transplant. Just the first in the UK. The first successful uterine transplant took place in Turkey, over a decade ago, while there have been enough of them in the US to make it no longer newsworthy when a subsequent pregnancy is brought to term.

That's the part I don't get. Surely it's possible to do a small run of them using more flexible tools? If you can get parts for a 100 year old train, and if the part doesn't exist some machine fires up and makes them from CAD files, I'd assume the same is true for electronics, especially since serious nerds have stuff like custom PCB tools. But I'm guessing there's elements to CRTs, cassette players, etc that I don't understand that are too complex to do small print runs that way.

Production tooling is not flexible, and flexible tools are expensive to use. Take the tape deck mechanism for example. You can make those tiny mechanical linkage parts with flexible tools (CNC mills, lathes, routers), but they will be very expensive, as anything produced on a CNC tends to be. Most of those little parts are stamped sheet metal, which is fast, efficient and cheap on a large scale. You have to produce tooling for the presses to make those parts, which is a fixed cost, and that cost gets spread out over the run which makes it cheap. On a small scale that tooling is more expensive than even CNC based production. When you program a CNC machine to make a batch of those parts, you're paying for the machine time (it's slow) and the guy programming it, plus the material which is a giant chunk which will be mostly wasted as chips; very expensive. Plastic parts basically have to be injection molded, because FDM 3D printed parts won't hold up and SLA is too expensive and slow, now you have to pay for molds are not cheap. Electronic parts are even worse, it's ungodly expensive to produce a component that does not already exist. If you need even simple tape heads for example because old stock ran out, you have to produce the ferrite core, the windings, the metal case, and you have to assemble it all. God help you if you need to make a custom chip. The worst example of all is the CRT itself. A cathode ray tube is an incredibly complex part to make. It has the internal phosphor screen which is difficult chemistry and production on its own, anodes and cathodes, guides, coatings, windings, and of course the big glass tube itself, which flat out requires a set of expensive tooling in a factory that can manufacture specialized glass parts, there is no "small run" capability here unless you want each one to cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Someone asked about the Rumble app a while back and I gave a very negative opinion on the Android app, saying that it was a bandwidth hog and closer to non-functional than fully functional. I haven't seen anyone mention it since then but it has improved since that time.

Main improvements are:
My sub feed isn't just a blank page anymore
Bluetooth controls work now
UI is vastly improved

Needs improvement:
Still sucks down bandwidth compared to other video apps even while using low res video
Very heavy battery usage compared to other video apps
My phone actually gets uncomfortably warm in my pocket (pixel 6)
If you're watching/listening to an active live stream at more than 1x speed it doesn't automatically reset to 1x when you catch up, causing it to buffer for a few seconds, continue playing at the increased speed for a second, then buffer again

Overall it's very usable now, if they work on their compression/codec that should fix three of my four complaints (bandwidth, battery, heat) and the other is just a minor issue where I need to pull my phone out of my pocket to set it back to 1.0 once I've caught up. I think it will be solid.

Now that I'm thinking about it a little more I'm realizing how bullshit this actually was. I understand that he probably didn't want a check with 'Dax Herrera' on it going directly into the office of Goldstein & Goldblatt for Asterois' defense, but I can just about guarantee Dick knows how to discretely move money around. There was absolutely nothing stopping him from backing a Kickstarter or GoFundMe for Asterios' defense, and there was definitely nothing stopping him from writing Asterios a check for what the defense cost once everything was done and dusted. And I remember watching TDS episodes in the aftermath of the lolsuit and over time Dick started slipping in little barbs to make Asterios appear to be money-hungry. Given that Asterios is a Jew from New York that works at an ad agency it's not a hard sell, but it's still pretty rich coming from Dick fucking Masterson. Vito has absolutely no idea the kind of unlubed buttfucking he's in for once Dick has a controversy he can't just easily laugh off.

You don't have to like Fritz The Cat to acknowledge that it's a culturally significant film. Whether one sees it as a satire of the "free love" movement of the late '60s-early '70s or some sort of early pro-furry propaganda is down to how the individual interprets the message.

As for Bakshi, he was an influential animator. Again you don't have to like his influence to acknowledge it, and I was genuinely shocked to hear that Null had never heard of Bakshi or Fritz The Cat.
