Regarding the sperm donation from siblings I'm pretty sure it's actually the brother of one of the (born) woman giving his sperm to inseminate the OTHER woman in the couple, which is a fair compromise so both parental figures are blood related to the child. They might be degenerates, but not to the point of conceiving incest babies. (I hope)

I am very sure that's what they were talking about. The thing with IVF stuff, it works better if you use donor sperm and your own (womb haver's) egg. You can implant an embryo that shares no genetics with the surrogate mother, but the likelihood of success gets even lower. And it's low to start.

It is not super unusual for infertile couples to look for siblings (of the OTHER partner). The idea of genetic connection is important sometimes.

So if you're two women and the non child bearing woman has a brother, using his sperm will result in a child who shares a lot of genetic material with both women.
