I only feel bad for the innocent bystanders to that shit show who had their night ruined.

To be fair, the current left wing political movement is really just a new religion. It comes complete with blasphemy laws, belief in thought-magic (I believe I am a little girl, therefor I am), witch hunts, ousting, confessional, conversion, violent/terroristic means to enforce, punish or spread, suppression of criticism, exemption from the law, tithes, compulsory oaths in order to take part in society, disowning of friends and family over it, etc.
The same thing happened in China with communism, where they've been worshiping Mao as a literal god for decades. They still keep replicas of Mao's mangoes as holy relics that they pray to, and many will go batshit if anyone points out that they can't be the real, original mangoes because they'd have rotted ages ago. At least one person over there was tried for blasphemy/being counter revolutionary and executed for daring to say that the mangoes look like sweet potatoes in stead of some amazing gift from the god Mao. North Korea does this shit too; their laws and customs dictate that the current ruler is a literal god on Earth, complete with children's storybooks about how he was born in some mystical manner.

The great difference between leftism and true religion is that the former only demands your intellectual assent. Being a good person in leftism requires that you believe all the right things and having allegiance to all the right causes. Beyond this, leftist ethics are are just hedonism without any higher standard to aspire towards. But in actual religious systems, the believer is expected to cultivate virtue and do good deeds. There are groups that will go on and on about the necessity of "praxis", that you need to manifest all your theory into concrete political action to agitate towards revolution, but there is still no focus on personal morality, in fact leftism is outright hostile to self-improvement because it is seen as a distraction of the social cause of all life's woes. This allows leftists to accuse right-wingers and the like of hypocrasy in a way that you really can't accuse them of back, not because rightist are in any way more hypocritical or flawed, but because leftists do not even try to aspire to something more in the first place.

But all of those things are currently claimed or practiced by both the religious and the "religious". Both are abound with hypocrites clamoring to claim moral superiority outlined by the dogma. Both are abound with followers who use pseudo science and wild claims as their proof. Both sides of the coin have a lot of virtue signaling and doing good deeds just for asspats. Both sides also have followers who do good deeds in earnest without posting them to Instagram because they want to make the world into a better place, to help others and to be good people. Bad actors on both sides are where most of the commonalities that are scrubbing away the line come from.
It is very true that modern leftism has the whole bucket of crabs thing going on to an extreme. Various religious groups are guilty of this in various ways and usually to much lesser extents, but leftism is absolutely incredible in how much they condemn self improvement. Fitness, saving in stead of spending, chastity, body modification, vices, familial priority, monogamy, compromise; all of these and more are absolute affronts to leftism because it's full of awful people who are worried about others serving as good examples to contrast with themselves. I can't think of any religious group aside from some splinter cults, some voodoo sects, etc that places such heavy emphasis on condemning self improvement. But we'd do well to remember that once upon a time, real scientific improvement and efforts to seek impartial knowledge were more often than not condemned as blasphemy because they often disproved things in the holy books. The left is currently going that rout pretty hard.
Anyway, my apologies for derailing, I'll shut up about this.

I agree and that's sort of what I was getting at, that he didn't realize that people are generally retarded and religion, while not always logical is beneficial and that if you made it unfashionable people would find something else to worship that has a vague illusion of being non religious but is in fact very similar to religion and probably far worse. Basically, Dawkins tore down a fence without asking why it was built in the first place and now he's finding out.
Oh, also, the fact that anyone thinks the government is somehow immune from every issue private business suffers from is hilarious because the government is simply a business with a monopoly on money printing and force which will always result in pure corruption if given worship.
