"Mad at the Internet" - a/k/a My Psychotherapy Sessions

Then just listen to english dubs or read english translations. Some things are better dubbed.
Of course you pick the literal sole example in existence where the dub made things better because the actors were taking the piss out of it. That's totally a representative example of dubs.

Josh can you just give this guy permission to watch his Chinese girl cartoons so we can move on?

The Game of Thrones has all of that but is heralded (before the last season) as one of the greatest shows put to television. It really does come off as a bias against a piece of media because it comes from a country you don't like.
Or both of those things are the entertainment equivalent of McDonalds and it's made for and by autistic rape apes. GOT was only popular with borderline sane people because of two basic things it takes to make it in the fantasy genre: continuity and a big budget (just look at the state of capeshit). BTW, the books have even more rape than the TV show, or so I've heard from some extensive reviews. Man, it's almost as if undesirable shut ins like gooks and RR Martin are obsessed with rape and all other things degenerate for some astronomical mystery.

The first person who tried to convince me to watch GOT tried to sell me on how "actually really cute" it is that the princess develops stockholm syndrome for her repeated rapist who purchased her from her older brother. Gave it a fair shake for a few episodes until I couldn't force myself through anymore rape porn, misery porn or any other variety of literal porn. The guy who recommended it turned out to be a sick fuck, how shocking. If you enjoy that shit, there is something genuinely wrong with you. No informed household with morals allows that filth.

No, hating anime doesn't mean one is a GOT stan, Jesus Christ.

bro HE’S NOT GOING TO WATCH IT!!!!!!!!
take the FUCKING hint for goodness sake
He doesn't have to. I wouldn't recommend Ghost Stories either. I was just pointing out that if that is a hurdle then you can just go around it as the people who argue "You have to watch it subbed." Does not apply to quite a bit of things.
Like you can get just as much if not more from old Godzilla movies in the dubs if you just don't want to listen to Japanese. I would recommend the old Godzilla movies though.
@Chuck McGill There are MANY that the dubs are just fine, and more then just 1 that were actually better dubbed than in Japanese, "Panty and Stocking" and "FLCL" are two other well known examples of their popularity booming when they got english dubs, then they got sent back to Japan with japanese subs.

Honestly my favorite anime is so un anime like that I don't even like calling it one. Being a fan of anime is like being a fan of any other genre or medium. 99% of it is garbage just with it's own bad tropes and habits. The problem is that fans of bad movies or media don't tend to have their own quasi culture that turns a loose coalition of autistic men into some sort of gay hard to look at tribe. Weebs do. Also the fact that it's foreign media tends to attract a sort of "grass is greener on the other side" sort of guy. The sort of retard that thinks moving to the country that makes his Pokemons and his waifus and sushis is going to improve his life somehow.

One of the first things most normal people think of when they think anime, dragon ball z. the dub is way better. I somehow ended up hearing one of the original episodes in japanese. Was honestly hilarious how bad it was.

I normally have a pretty hard and fast no dubs rule, because bad voice acting is 100 times worse when you can actually understand it, but there's a couple that I will actually watch dubbed. Black Lagoon for example, not because the dub is particularly good, but because the characters are canonically supposed to be speaking English, and the crappy voice acting enhances the whole "A-Team but directed by John Woo" vibe the show has going on.

>if I talk about things I like, people sneed
Just a perspective. I'd like to see a Glad at the Internet.
Honestly one of the best MATIs is the Jace Connors one because it was reminiscing on an old friendship. But you can only do so many true stories like that before you run out of them.

Alright dude, I'm gonna try to explain this as best I can. I obviously can't look into Josh's mind, but I think I've got a pretty decent idea of what's going on.

There are some examples of 'good' anime that don't follow the typical anime tropes you could name, usually produced before 2010 or so. You could list these off all day. For the last 5 or so years, this has not been Josh's exposure to anime. His exposure to anime has been gross coomers with anime avatars on the Fediverse talking about yummy cunny. And then those coomers go on to recommend their favorite le based anime du jour to him ad nauseum.

Using your example of GOT, if the entire genre of medieval fantasy was filled with weird fans that fixate on the incest and underage shit, would you not reconsider your stance? Would you not be trying to at the very least put some distance between you and them? Wouldn't you start wondering what in this genre is attracting this crowd? I know it's always possible to attract a periphery demographic you don't intend(Star Trek is infamous for attracting pedos), but it's getting harder and harder to argue the people that make anime aren't aware of what they're doing.

Josh please talk about cheese again I can't believe the thread has gone back to gender wars and anime again. I'm sorry I ever complained about the cheese sperg.
Do you really need me to go back into Kroger and count out all the non-cheddar cheeses again? Aren't two youtube shorts enough?

@Chuck McGill I never watched GOT, however i can roll with it. I personally do not get involved in fandoms. I am very particular about the shows I watch, so there are really only 3 kinds of media I consume. 1. Classics that I think I have to get around to reading/watching. 2. Diamonds in the piles of the garbage and bland shows that come out that me or friends hear about and watch together. 3. Really bad shows that we find looking for good shows that we show each other to torture one another to try to out do each other in finding the worst show ever.
"For the last 5 or so years, this has not been Josh's exposure to anime." I know and I view that as unfortunate. He grew up on 4chan and decided he was going to try anime by watching Lucky Star. To me it is like if a person's first movie was Master of Disguise and swore off all movies or like many people listen to a country song on the radio and decide they hate all country music.

Oh please josh hangs out with the trannies in the rust community, I don't think he's worried about trooning out and becoming an anime gooner. Just have a fucking healthy relationship with the media you consume.

As someone that's listened to him speak on this at length and as someone that grew up at around the same time he did, I can tell you this isn't accurate. He was there for Toonami bro. He was probably watching Ruroni Kenshin, DBZ, Cowboy Bebop, Naruto and all the others that were playing around that time, many of which are widely considered to be 'the good ones'. He still doesn't like them. What's difficult to understand about this?

And I'm sure if I put Taylor Swift's entire back catalogue in front of you and told you "no really! It gets really good after the 20th generic breakup song!", I'm sure you'd listen to the whole thing. Right? Or are you going to admit that yes, it's perfectly fine to abstain from a genre or artist based off a half-formed impression?

Part of a healthy relationship with media is the ability to say "no thanks, not for me!"

In that example you watch the dub because it is shit, in fact the original is supposed to be taken seriously. It’s the equivalent of saying “watch this English dub bro”, and then recommending a DBZ comedic fandub.

English dubs of anime 9/10 are goofy as hell because they have to make English VA’s talk a mile a minute to match up with the Japanese. My understanding is that the Japanese language allows dialogue to be much more “dense” than if it were in English so any dub is always gonna sound weird.

Again how many times does it have to be said in this thread that nobody cares if josh likes or watches anime. I just don't want to hear him bitch about something he doesn't care for or use the worst examples of it he can think of, just like your music example imagine liking Slipknot then some old prick spergs at you for liking it.
