What's the point of stealing a fire hydrant? What would you even do with it?

The story says the hydrants are made of brass so I'm assuming they are being sold for scrap. Crackheads will do hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to infastructure/housing for just $30-$40 in scrap money for drugs. In this instance it sounds like they have done millions of dollars in damage as well as put countless lives and homes at risk in the process.

In Europe many chargers have no cord and you have to bring your own. In the US the same standard has been adopted and I suspect we'll start seeing it soon. For low end chargers it should work fine but I suspect the super high power ones still need their own cord for liquid cooling and larger conductors. Of course those sorts of companies probably also can afford better precautions.

The real funny bit, to me, is places trying to figure out how people in apartments can charge. So if you charge overnight you're likely to end up missing most of your cable.

Sadly EV chargers are required to have ground fault circuitry so they'll shut down power when a live cable is cut. Seems that omitting that may make the whole "stealing cables" thing fix itself.

It's still impressive the amount of effort they put into getting a few bucks of scrap metal while causing immense damage.
