Something is going on with Twitter/X at the moment and I think there might be a human element in play.

Yesterday, one of my friends, who is very vocally gender critical, was accused by one of her critics as having given herself "fake ass anime eyes" in a photograph, which clearly wasn't true. She responded 'These are my real eyes.'. A few hours later, she received a notification from Twitter informing her that her reply had been removed as it was regarded as being supportive of dangerous organisations or individuals.

It is hard to imagine how an AI could have reached such a conclusion. The reply could have been mass-flagged, but it's completely innocuous. I suspect that, behind the layers of AI moderation on X, there is a human sniper, drawn from a pool of the usual suspects, taking shots.

I'm still waiting for that powder keg event but I fear that nobody is willing to give up their barely tolerable existence to actually fix things.
