Considering France's tenuous political history the past 300-some yrs what with all the revolutions, I think the even the natives are just weirdly predisposed to constant political instability and sudden violent outbursts.

Because they invented elections to have revolutions without some of the bloodshed.

I mean that’s basically literally the case, the only purpose of elections is to make sure that any group large enough to revolt can just revote.

As you can see it’s worked but not perfectly. Sometimes the shootin’ is better than the vootin’.
