Is there a PC way to explain why chirping smoke detectors are funny?
All humor is unending expectations. Society has been reinforcing for close to two decades now that we're all equal and intelligent and just the same as one another. So it's really, really defying expectations that regardless of gender, regardless of income level, one particular type of people are not taking simple fire safety seriously, and accidentally broadcasting this fact in all forms of media they create.

ok so get this

Shaniqua answers my ticket. Before my ticket was answered, I provided very concise notes about what was happening and what I suspected the issue was (a faulty sensor).

It was one of those tech support encounters where you frontload them with all this diagnostic information, your conclusion and its reasoning, and what you suspect can be done. What you get instead s the flowchart.

MMMM DIDJA CHECK DEM OBSTRUCTIONS?

like YES holy SHIT

MMMMMMM DA STAHLANK POWAH SUPPLY SAY IT BE TOO HOT

yes i FUCKING KNOW but it's not

and then she gets rude with me, makes snarky comments about shit I had said trying to prove my point (i.e. "if you can compare your starlink to other devices nearby, just use those?" and "we'll send you a power supply fo' free, but maybe you can borrow their's in the mean time?")

then she RMAs the power supply, closes the ticket. I'm like, woah woah reopen this shit, you're sending it to a fucking office in Florida. There's an eMAG in Bulgaria on the border I can get to to pick up a new one.

MMMMMM SORRY DEY DONT DO DAT IT BE ARRIVIN IN DECEMBA 12TH

so there I am, buck broken, defeated, destroyed. i am prepared to not stream until new years.

but I just fucking checked the starlink

Capture2.PNGphoto_2024-11-24_14-04-03.jpg

At some point, the heat signals clear, the device starts showing it's warming for the first time I've ever seen, my speeds are business tier again and there are 0 obstructions.

I don't know what the fuck happened but it's like some second tier CSR reviewed my case at random and was like "oh Shaniquah, the temperature re-calibration button is right here"

Check if a fans busted or fuse is gone or some capacitor or something is dead? I had the overheating problem with my pc, it used to switch off from overheating. Turns out the fan connection was dead and its magnet was fucked so I had to replace it.
Mate, it's cold, the devices are cool to the touch, heat has literally never been the issue

Maybe you could work starlink customer support

I do customer service over the phone for many cities, primarily Detroit and spend all day talking to shaniquas like this for a living. Welcome to my special hell.

This was the funniest post I've read on here because I've run into the exact same problem with Starlink. I ended the call with a defeated 'jesus christ' and made an espresso martini.

One of my old routers used to do this shit back in the day. The solution was to literally unplug it for like 30 minutes to a few hours. Just unplug it, go to bed, plug it in when you wake up. Problem solved. Never understood why, but sometimes that shit just happened. Also had a DVR that would "overheat" if it wasn't on angle. So I proped it up like 20° and it never gave me guff afterwards. Tech be fucky yo.

I dunno when the destiny stuff leak happened, but if you are covering it on the "friday" stream or the tuesday stream, you should start your stream with this for how horrifying the content is.

Full 10 hours, or maybe just a few seconds. Either or, you'll get donations.

A direct appeal to /u/foonathan to unlock the Discussion about the C++ News that Andrew Tomazos was expelled
I would like to appeal directly to u/foonathan to unlock the post "C++ Standard Contributor expelled". Here is the precise reasoning for locking down the post:
I am not going to deal with this on a Sunday, sorry. The amount of moderation traffic it already generated is too high and nothing productive is going to happen as a result of this "discussion".
Just because "nothing productive is going to happen" does not mean the discussion itself is of no value. This is, as the sidebar says, a place for "Discussions, articles, and news about the C++ programming language" and the article that was locked is a perfect example of fitting content.
I want to thank all moderators for their hard work, and happily offer myself to help out, as I'm sure many other people would. There is no need to lock a post of this gravity.
I wish everyone here an amazing sunday and do not want to cause extra work. But locking a post to eat sunday cake is not the way. I'm also going to eat sunday cake now, and I hope things are more calm and the original discussion reinstated when I come back.

UPDATES With a lot of caution, here are some opinions on the topic I found valuable:
Those are not my opinions, I have no way to verify them, and I'm hoping time will clear things up! Please send me corrections if you have inside knowledge, and i'll update things accordingly.
PLEASE keep the discussion civil, and read more than you write.

Since you were right about everything else, you're probably right about this too
