Nioh was about William Adams. A protestant who was taken captive off a wrecked trading ship. Jesuits tried to convince them to execute him. He started telling Ieyasu about how Catholics and protestants differ and he took quite a liking to him. He was eventually legitimately granted samurai status and was quite influential and learned fluent Japanese. He never returned home and died in Japan at 55. He wasn't allowed to leave for a decade however. Actually a pretty fascinating story. There's a book about him. Nioh is fun, but very Japanese. It's basically ninja gaiden mixed with dark souls and diablo. It's not overly anime but it's quite fantastical. Assassin's Creed could have adapted his story too.
