The comfiest part of my week is on Saturday mornings when I sit in the sun, or sometimes lie down on the bed, and listen to a playback of the latest episode of Mad At The Internet. This morning I dosed off during the Bossman segment; unsurprising since it is always the most tranquil part of the stream – the literal eye of the storm. I was awoken by an anime girl screaming nonsense at me an UWU voice. I thought that I had died and had undeservedly gone to hell.
There is a photo taken during GamerGate of the Literally Whos and their entourage visiting Google HQ. They are all lined up in a corridor. Harper is there and Sarkeesian and I believe Quinn is there too. Conspicuous by her absence is Brianna Wu. I have a hazy memory that, after this photo appeared on social media, Wu posted something along the lines of how she would have loved to have been there, but was too busy. It was clear she hadn't been invited. Everyone hated Wu – not just people on the GamerGate side of the pixel fence, but also her own allies.
Randi Harper coded the GGAutoblocker which was used on Twitter to mass block the accounts of anyone associated with GamerGate, along with other undesirable individuals. The blocker actually outlasted GamerGate. In the same way that Harper would arbitrarily block out the sun whenever she lumbered past a group of people, for years after I would find myself arbitrarily blocked by individuals who had no knowledge of the videogame-inspired spergery that had occurred, but who had opted to use Harper's blacklist.
Milo Yiannopoulos despised Randi Harper and authored a pair of investigative articles about her on Breitbart (archives of both appear at the end of this post). This was around the same time that Milo launched an impromtu livestream on Youtube, late one night, where he claim to have been bitten by a spider and expressed concerns that he might be dying. I understand Milo that lived in East London, in the UK, at the time, so it didn't seem plausible, though he did eventually give up the black cock, and in fact cock of every colour and creed. Could slow-acting spider venom have been the root cause?
Milo's first article on Harper was an introduction to her greatest hits. The second, and more entertaining, was his attempt at fact checking some fairly outrageous claims that were circulating about her. Among these was the rumour that she had cosplayed as her own son on Twitter, which I remember well. This remains unverified, but I think that it's likely. Sadly there are photos confirming that she did indeed dye her dog blue. I have never seen a more depressed dog.
To her credit, I think Harper saw where things were going and had the good sense to put her head down and get on with life.
I look forward to the 4th July drunk stream where you endure the early stages of getting a George Floyd back tattoo, profess your undying love of the transsexual community, and talk at length about the evolution of hentai.
