It is remarkable how much Pretty Derby has spread so quickly.

I'll give it credit that because it uses the legacies and names of real racehorses the owners of all of these horses have forced the game to be strictly nonsexual. It's perhaps the most innocent and strictly sfw gacha game in existence because of how hard those owners lean on the devs.

Since it was mentioned in the last episode, I gotta say every time Null mentions Lain being the only anime he’s seen I have to laugh.
Were you guys fucking with him or were people genuinely recommending it?
I don’t really watch that stuff anymore but when i did that show was hard as shit to sit through. I know zero fans of it irl.

I watched it as an adult and thought it was pretty dumb but it’s one of those things that must have penetrated my psyche, because I think about it almost every day. Like a lot of Japanese science fiction animation from that era, it was more art film than anime slop. It has a pretty palatable doomer aesthetic and touched on the consequences of end stage social media when mass market internet communication was still in its infancy. I’m not surprised people keep recommending it to Josh since he grew up around computers and Internet culture.

But, there’s no fucking reason for the god of the Internet to be a 13 year old girl other than Jap pedo proclivities. The anime could’ve held up if they made the protagonist a NEET in his mid 20s, and that would’ve avoided turning nerdy computer boys into trannies years down the line (because lain is just like me frfr)

Like, you can’t tell me this wasn’t conceptualized by someone who isn’t at least a little into little girls.
