A trailer for the long anticipated Madness: Project Nexus 2 was released a few days ago, showing off a SOULful live-action short followed by a smattering of top-down shooting. Co-op appears to be a big focus, and the video promises a meaty arcade mode alongside the campaign. The most impressive thing by far, however, is that the game is going to be released at all after all these years.

The slated Steam release date is September 29th, and a playable demo is out now.

Project Nexus won me over with the demo, I'm so glad that it's finally gotten a concrete release date.

Followed the original Madness Cartoons back in the day, and to date this is the only kickstarter I've ever backed. I suppose I'm biased but it's shaped up pretty well over the years! Has a fun combat system the story missions are pretty good but I've spent most of my time in arena mode. Haven't touched any of the builds in over a year so I'm definitely looking forward to the official release! But it's a real missed opportunity that they aren't releasing it on September 22nd instead

Just to anyone who isn't paying attention know. The game is coming out tomorrow.

I played through the demo and I had a good time. The AI wasn't great especially for your partner but it was doable. Graphics are good and the core concept is excellent.

Waiting for this game to be released on Linux once they fixed the shader issues.

I've played for a couple of hours, so I'll give my first thoughts on the game:

Overall, I'm really enjoying my time with it. The controls take a bit of getting used to—particularly aiming with the camera that can change from room to room—but once you get the hang of it, combat feels pretty fluid and satisfyingly crunchy. There's an interconnected hub world wherein you physically move between stages, and it also includes respawning groups of enemies you can toy with.

I'm playing on the second hardest difficulty, and while it isn't crushingly difficult by far, some aspects of the game feel like they've been designed with co-op in mind. Whenever you're in a more challenging battle, your AI partner will probably be downed a lot of the time, leaving you to deal with the horde. It can turn into a clusterfuck pretty quickly with you trying to whittle them away with melee attacks. Two issues I've noticed are that it can be very fiddly to get the weapon you want when there's a big pile of them on the ground, and also it can sometimes be impossible to get behind large enemies when required for a takedown.

Those small problems aside, I'd say it's been a very good, polished experience.
