Madonna went so far as to make a tranny the star of one of her videos, Mykki Blanco (in “Dark Ballet.”)

What’s funnier though is I suspect Madonna’s face was simply too fucked up from surgery to be featured in a video at the time. So she appears briefly beneath a veil. (With her eyes looking crazy and seeming to point in different directions a la a recent Botox injection.

The song seems to compare tranny oppression with the plight of Joan of Arc - we are shown images of Mykki being burned at the stake.

I know this is ⏰ but it’s funny to me that a woman renown for her vanity and relentless self promotion was a) too fucked from surgery to appear in her own music video and b) was willing to feature an unattractive black troon instead for maximum tranny credibility. Oh and lest I forget Mykki is very vocal about his HIV+ status so extra credit for that one too.

Nah, personally I don't think she belongs in that handmaiden thread. I'd argue she's just doing what she always did and being Madonna.

I forgot about that Dark Ballet video (the auto tune used with her vocals is giving me seizures btw). This video seems to be some kind of homage to Like A Prayer, with the same motives of a black saint, burnings, catholic church, crucifix etc.

In Like A Prayer it was black Jesus on a cross, here we have a black AND troon representation of Joan d'Arc. I suspect because there would be zero controversy if he was just black, so getting an HIV positive troon was better.

Madonna has always liked to stir some shit with her videos and featured gays and troons before it was mainstream. Both of her 1990 released videos , Vogue and Justify My Love, have visible troons in them but because the world was very transphobic back then they were just called androgynous gays.

So while she's acting like a transactivist a bit it's not like she just jumped on that bandwagon for the clout, it's been her thing for the past 30 years or so.

I don't know for sure, but I'm wondering if that Nashville concert announcement was just a weird coincidence that happened to take place exactly on the same day as the shooting. And it's now being blown out of proportion trying to paint Madonna as some uber woke trans lover. I mean she's always tried to be controversial but she's never been stupid and making that announcement, just to piss off transphobes, would be a stupid thing to do. It's Tennessee, not California or Oregon.
