Mana tithe also works in commander way too often. Black players on suicide watch after trying to demonic tutor on turn 2 every time.

MaRo has admitted that MTG will continue to go full-on rainbow with their characters and card designs, and the inevitable Lorwyn revisit WILL be ruined:

MaRo's statement sounds so out of whack that it makes you ask, who else is controlling him by the strings now? Do WotC troons have REALLY DEEP dirt on him that they'll unleash if he doesn't stay the course?

I can't prove it but part of me suspects that MaRo, or someone acting at his direction, sent that question in. It reads like a strawman or parody of how he thinks people who dislike nu-magic talk and lets him check a bunch of virtue signaling boxes to boot.

They work in a mega-millions company and this coming set is about to be a massive dud.

Of course they need a narrative for why it's going to underperform.

I've been watching the limited games that are coming out - what a fucking surprise. A bunch of mechanics that have always been clunky-to-bad, a new one that learned nothing from the mistakes of Corrupted (Speed does absolutely nothing before Max Speed 99% of the time), and a fuck-ton of atrocious D-level cards that you never want to put in your deck in the commons slots -- yeah, I don't think the shit aesthetic is getting saved by the gameplay here.

How long till USAID dries up in Hasbro so that they won't be so incentivized to do faggotry or are they doing it all for nothing?

Today I had to scoop and excuse myself because someone at the table started having some sort of mental break and wouldn't excuse himself and nobody wanted to confront him. It was quite disturbing. He wouldn't stop talking in specific detail about his experiences of being abused as a child. His girlfriend was trying to sate him and asked if he was angry and he said "If I were really angry, I would have already destroyed this room" and "I know I'm the most violent person here." I had no reason to stay around Mr. Grimdark.

Anyone else ever had to scoop for these reasons? Crazy people stories? I think most people I play Commander with are 'special' in some way, but you can have disabilities or illnesses or be a generally lame person, and still be enjoyable to play a card game with. This was the first time I just had to go.

Crazy people stories?
I'm at FNM, employee A is in the tourney and has one of his sideboard cards replaced with Tree Monkey (not legal during that format) as a joke by employee B. Employee A notices between rounds that he has an illegal sideboard and loses his shit. I start paying attention from a few tables away, dude stands up red-faced and throws his fucking deck and sideboard across the room yelling "GOD DAMN TREE MONKEY" and drives off.

He lives in Seattle and used to work in Hollywood. He's always been a true believer.

Oh no, Lorwyn will be trash just like Aetherdrift.

Oh no it will get completely blown out by Marvel and Final Fantasy.

Oh no the Magic IP will be worth Negative 30 Billion Dollars instead of Negative 29 Billion Dollars.

That's legitimately horrific, I know why the game attracts such autists but I've never had an encounter like this, worst thing that's happened to me was some 40yo retard playing slivers on a slow hand and not "popping off" debating with me that had 21 commander damage on him that no, in fact, it was only 19 or 20 and he wasn't dead yet, I legitimately had to go at that point since that was my last game but he kept being like "no... stay one more turn... I'll show you... please... let me just hit you once... with my 40/40 trample haste flying etc etc... please just one more turn" and I thought THAT was deranged.

Man was going through some cards and found ANOTHER reprint where the art just went worse...

So is Aetherdrift just dead on arrival? I haven't really seen anyone talking about it despite it being the prerelease.
Why would it not be?

Vehicles are a failed mechanic, There are like 6 that are remotely playable (5 if we aren't counting the bullshit with Greasefang and Parhelion) and all of them (including the Greasefang Deck) are fucking miserable to actually play against.

The Set's concept is more retarded than Murders are Karlov Manor and Thunder Junction combined.

and there are no chase cards. No decent Land Cycle, no Powerful Cycle of Rares no Good Planeswalkers (Saffron Olive tried the Aetherspark in the Content Creator Preview and it fucking sucked a dick). Like the only card in the entire set that does anything interesting is Loot and everyone fucking hates him for being a shitty baby yoda ripoff.

Unless Tarkir is 11/10 I think Aetherdrift might actually kill Magic as an independent IP. Like we will get the rest of the already planned sets but I wouldn't be surprised if this year or next we get an announcement of a Full year of Universes Beyond standard sets. Like the Blind Eternity/Space set isn't gonna wow anyone I bet, especially because I imagine that is going to be the Climax of the Jace/Vraska/Loot arc and "Llorwyn 2" was announced as the last set of this year but got bumped for an Unnamed Universes Beyond set.

We got Return to Llorwyn and Return to Strixhaven as the 2026 sets, which means we aren't seeing a new plane* for over a year and a half (Duskmourne was the fall set in 2024, so at best the third set of 2026 will be a new place..but it hasn't been announced and we have 2 Magic IP sets opening the year...we are getting Universes beyond for the second half of 2026 I bet)

*The Blind Eternities isn't a Plane, I am willing to bet that set is going to take place on multipule planes akin to Aetherdrift, we might get a "new" place but I doubt it will get any sort of real focus.

This is why I'm actually surprised it's as bad as it seems. As bad as Murders and Thunder were I still remember people being hyped for it and hearing talk about strong cards as well as people doing prereleases. This time around it's crickets.

They're talking more about Hashaton the latest discard commander that somebody forgot to add 'exile the creature' to, but honestly the only thing that's from Aetherdrift that's being talked about is the Eternal Might precon. Now there's some Commanders if you care about it that'll hold up their own, Azorius Artifacts is fucking busted in Limited, and there's some cards that'll be upgrades. But hype for Aetherdrift is few in far between. Has anybody got a piss border card yet, and are they ugly as sin in real life?

I went to check Reddit to see what was happening, everyone is talking about MaRo and Lorwyn. I was recommended a new Reddit page for FreeMTG or something where people are sick of globo-homo Magic, and several of the posts are liberal/leftists bitching about getting banned from the main Reddit Magic forum for saying very mild things like that they support troons but don't want to constantly be political at the game table.
