da faq? He was explicitly a Chandra love interest - i mean very literally he was invented for the Chandra planeswalker book as a romantic interest and then WOTC brought him into the game. But he's never been a thing with Liliana unless you just mean her general flirtation tendency that she would kind of do with anyone she needed to manipulate.
The Liliana spark was in the Dominaria plotline, and they paid it attention in WOTS and Strixhaven. It's there, even if it's one sided on Liliana's end
God forbid your headliner characters that show up repeatedly have consistent ability sets...almost as if that is how you build a brand....
But that shit takes effort and they really hated a white man being the headliner for white mana.
We will see, but I think Jace might be a representation of the old magic fanbase who wish things would go back to how they were. Thus they'll shove him into the dirt.
He absolutely is. I'm shocked they haven't tried saying Tefert's daughter sparked or some shit like that
I imagined at the time that they killed off Gideon to swap in Teyo Verada as a guy with a similar power that allowed for more creativity- a character whose ability is "be fucking invincible" is very hard to write around. Turns out, once again, I gave WotC's creative department way too much credit.
They tried with that Egyptian dude from Amonkhet but nobody gave a shit. They're gonna once more with that non-binary faggot Niko in the future.

That would have been when I dipped out. You mean she was in love with him or that she was in lust with him? ("damn that's a fine piece of man meat" etc)

But then I remember the days Iliana was supposed to be Jace's girl - in a toxic way. But I also remember Jace having a thing with this girl:

I'm starting to suspect WOTC had no relationship plan and just let whatever writer pair up the planeswalkers they wanted.

She was definitely dwelling more on him and cared about him a whole lot more than she did Jace. Part of her shift to starting to be a less awful person in Strixhaven is her trying to come to terms with Gideon sacrificing himself for her when she knows she absolutely didn't deserve it.

she knows she absolutely didn't deserve it.
Not only didn't she never can deserve it.

Liliana was an Evil Old Walker for decades, that means that she likely was the Bolas for at last one War of the Spark Tier event, even if she has fully and completely repented and is attempting to make up for her sins as a mortal she simply can not make up for the shit she probably did before the mending.

The sad thing is Basri Ket, said Egyptian dude, actually could've had a lot of potential. He was essentially a foil to Gideon. Gideon has a crisis of faith and becomes a kind of nondenominational heroic figure. Basri has a crisis of faith and comes out believing harder than ever. When Oketra died he (already a planeswalker) was humbled and concluded that even if his goddess was dead, the principles she stood for—solidarity and mutual respect—were more necessary than ever. The idea of a wandering holy man traveling to different worlds working miracles and proselytizing the dogma of a dead religion on moral principle is a very neat idea.

But like with all of Wizards' diversity quota characters, he shows up and then isn't mentioned again for years, so even with that setup he never developed a following. How could he when he didn't have any screentime? Moreover, he's not the type of character Wizards wants to promote. On paper, Basri should be a very serious, philosophical character, potentially even Christ-like depending on the writer. But the shitlib Seattlites at Wizards are not going to make a guy who goes around saving lives and converting them to his faith their flagship character.

And then when we finally go back to Amonkhet in Aetherdrift what do we get?

Cat nigga. Nothing that actually pertains to his original lore. What, does he have solidarity with cats? You just know some childless soyfacing millennial at Wizards went "Haha, Basri CAT!" and thought they were the funniest fucker alive.

Dean. Buddha planeswalker actually sounds interesting.

Probably not. Even if redemption is possible in some abstract moral sense Liliana is too fundamentally grasping and selfish to ever cross that line. That said, recognition of her own unworthiness is character growth, as opposed to the "ha! What a dumb way to die. Sucks to suck, loser" reaction that Tezzeret, Bolas, or Ob Nixilis would have had. (Incidentally, this is why it worked: Liliana is so patently unworthy of salvation, and Gideon so profoundly moral, that Bolas almost certainly never considered the possibility that he'd lay down his life for hers.)

A good team could use it as the start of a new character arc. We have WOTC.

It was the GW one, Emmara. Who was originally supposed to have the Voice of Resurgence effect, explaining why she would later reappear as a lowly 2/2 after being one of the largest elves in the game.
That's right! Thx for the correction.

I think I kept thinking it was the Azorious girl because she was like his assistant always nagging him (so mixed up her as gf).

Man I think Emmara and Jace would be.... weird. Isn't selesnya a hive mind? And him a mind mage? So any time together is like an orgy?

I've seen some of that guild. Do not want.

Well consider that unless Liliana is immortal after her deal is broken then she has like 80 years at most.

How many Cities like Thraben did she overrun in her lifetime?

Gonna need a source on that.
I'm sorry I don't know the page off top but I believe it's mentioned in one of the War of the Spark novels. Something about him always giving Vraska the good dick with his mind powers. If I'm misremembering and it's not there then I confused an old running gag from the /mtg/ threads with actual lore and you have my apologies.

I mean they literally made canon that Jace was nutting in Vraska without protection so...
OTJ is so bold as to say that they have established with near-certainty that a human/gorgon can't produce children because he's creampied her that often with no results. Jace laying the good pipe is unironically one of the most consistent traits displayed by any character in the modern story which is frankly horrifying.

EDIT: As per the Vraska story in MoM, all of this takes place in a sort of shared mindscape—

It is intense and sincere, desperate and immediate. He feels like a homecoming. Our cheeks press, he makes a small noise and the toes in my boots curl, I draw his lower lip gently between my teeth and he gasps in delight. The tide laps the beach. We grasp each other desperately, making up for lost time, our bodies drawing close on the sand. I run my hands through that hair, and it is just as soft as I hoped it would be, and when my nails skim the surface of his scalp, and he groans in response.

In a sudden rush, I finally get what kept Liliana on the hook all those years, and it draws my eyes up and around us as he runs a trail of kisses down my neck. Jace projects back, his mind overriding my own dream, a rush of images of his own; we're in a Kaladesh apartment, we're on the deck of The Belligerent, we're in a glade in Zendikar, we're in an Innistradi castle, we're in the Chamber of the Guildpact, our lips press and for one thrilling moment I feel the kiss from his perspective, and then seamlessly we're back on the beach surrounded by infinite impossible stars. I laugh, "You're incredible!" and he kisses me even harder.

It's an absolute tragedy that Allison Luhrs stopped writing and doing storyline/world building. It's not even close to the stuff they drag out today. The Vraska and Jace arc was her baby, and she comes back every time there's a story focusing on them. Her stuff's the ideal of love empowered by the impossible.

I'm not saying that she could have saved magic story, but the quality of story has completely collapsed circa her leaving in 2022.

this shit can't be rea
Least unbelievable concept. If you can alter peoples minds using cosher tricknology, what stops you from just making dophamine producers to think that you're having a really good sex?
He also can make people shit themselves, but nobody gonna write a book about that.
