How much financial trouble are they in?
Magic is making them more money than ever before, so I would guess Hasbro is shifting away from more 'conventional' toys as shit like Roblox/Fortnite/Minecraft eats up more of that share and into a better moneymaker. My guess would be that market research has made them realize that there's both milquetoast and obnoxious ways to push 'we're diverse,' as well as the fact that every demographic on the planet (with the exception of troons) responds more positively to advertisement by attractive people, whatever sex those people may be.
Also reddit is convinced this card is going to break Izzet Turns/Dragons when it's terrible for them (being at best a slight downgrade on Goldspan) but just going to get Chariot banned because of the insane synergy Chariot/Wrenn/Manaform will have in any red/green Midrange deck.
I could see that card changing up how the deck is built - there's that kindof-janky sweeper from Strixhaven that exiles instant/sorc from graveyard and then does cmc damage to everything non-dragon. Drop dragon on 4 and that on 5, and that's a pretty strong swing. But that would require running looting effects to reliably get something in the GY that can clear a board, which would rejigger the entire deck; reddit seems to be very bad at understanding why dragons runs Goldspan or Dragon Egg. This card's fairly powerful, but in those decks it would also be a bit winmore.

It curves a little awkwardly for Chariot, but the fact that dropping a Wrenn gives you an extra 5 damage and if the board stalls, a chariot-made copy of the token sticks around does make GR a much more attractive home. Though even there, I think the deck would need some tinkering to offer up more potential tokens than just chariot, ranger class, and wrenn. Reddit also seems to think that the 4/4 trample haste thing that can flip is also somehow a real competitor for Chariot, which goes to show that they still can't grasp that "8 power across 3 bodies one of which is immune to sorcery removal with infinite potential upside" is why Chariot is good, because they're too busy shitting themselves about Alrund's Epiphany exclusively. The amount of screaming I've seen about that new extra turn spell is pretty pathetic, given that that one gets hit by discard (even if it DOES juke disdainful stroke, whoah)

At the point you rejigger the deck for another 2-4 4 drops is when you stop being a tempo deck and start being a midrange deck. The most glaring reason dragons doesn't want this thing is that, like most blue decks in general and tempo decks in particular it doesn't want to spend it's mana on it's own turn. Mana spent on your opponents turn will only give you a body to block with, so it's ability to win more is mostly dependent on the doing things that make their card selection suboptimal, although bouncing shit to your hand to flash in a 3/3 might be worth it on some boards. I could see this deck working but it would have pretty much all different cards other than expression and the dragons.

Also I see redditors claim that Chariot is the only thing keeping turns in check when counter spells are the only way to 1 for 1 it except for the destroy all nonland permanent wraths in white. If anything turns/dragons is keeping chariot from being a mandatory 4 of in every single deck instead of only half of them.

Some autistic questions.

Is there any etiquette in regards to card shops? Specifically regarding asking people to play games with you? Is it normal for people just to hang out there looking to play games or do they only come when theres a specific night dedicated to it?

I've played Magic, pokemon, and yugioh off and on online for the last half decade at least, figured its finally time I mosey on down to the local card shop.

I would look on your LGS's facebook page or website to see if there is a specific night for the format you want to play.

I'm trying to build archelos stax without resorting to a basic-bitch landfall strategy. I'm still going to use his ability for untapped ravnica bounce lands etc, but I want it to be a more political, with post-erata winter orb shenanigans/trinisphere manipulation. Could use more staxxy recommendations (especially pieces i can turn off at will)

Edit: I'm cool with a bit of landfall (I've got wrenn and seven to support it) but the more pieces that interact with opponents board dynamically the better.

I was thinking about an Archelos pauper deck myself (because he can improve so many common cards) but never really felt it. Would have made the commander legends draft fun.

Actually pulled 2 archelos from packs though. You want the fancy foil version?

naw, I'm good with basic-bitch archelos. I'm not too big on foil commanders, the only exception I run is foil-etched queen marchesa. Thanks for the offer tho.

Back when I went to the shops to play I'd either sit down with my decks displayed ready to play or I went around looking to see if anyone was busy. One place I used to go to though had two small groups of about twelve people total plus the five guys in the back playing D&D and we would just get into three four-man or two six-man matches. Around here you used to go to various shops and always find someone to play against and then you had two shops that were great for large numbers of people playing with one shop being the end all be all for Magic just due to the number of people. Any given weekend you'd see up to fifty people there, sometimes more. I remember when they got a fire complaint due to being over capacity. Now shops either die off to quickly to get good numbers or they have enough room for four to six people to play.

Are there any decent MTG Youtube channels? All the ones I've found are run by breadtubers.
I watch Bosh N Roll, he probably has autistic political opinions but he just plays/critiques peoples legacy/vintage/modern decks so I don't know for sure and don't care enough to find out.

Define decent. Like desolator is too arch-conservative for Limbaugh. Magic Historian can be fun.

Cross-posted to the cracked thread, but mark talked about the upcoming UN set yesterday.

We also did one other cool thing to play up the humor. Ari Zirulnik was in charge of names and flavor text, and he had a great idea for getting a team of comedy writers to do the creative work. Here's who he got:

  • Kathleen De Vere, Cameron Lauder, and Graham Stark are members of the Canadian comedy group LoadingReadyRun, best known for their sketch comedy, game streams, shows, charity work, and more.
  • Seanbaby "invented being funny on the internet" and is also known for his contributions to media outlets such as Electronic Gaming Monthly and websites such as Cracked.com. He currently writes for 1-900-HOT-DOG.
  • Austin Bridges is an established Magic creative text freelancer, as well as a writer, editor, and podcaster—this guy does it all!

Well, at least Sean Baby was at one point kind of funny in a 2000s internet sort of way? Loading Ready Run has never been funny even by the low standards of Canadians and I have no idea who the last person is.

I've been on the hunt for decent content, but it's hard to get a creator that, once established, feels it necessary to promote their politics or other bullshit. All I got atm:

MagicAids on Youtube is the only modern streamer I watch, and I don't play Modern. NSFW, you'll see why.

Iamactuallylvl1 is solid and educational Vintage on MTGO. Relatively clean and SFW.

For some reason every nobody with the most comically-stereotyped nasally voice decided to do Commander streams on Youtube, recording via a potato they threw near the table. The content creators that do have some good setups and banter, namely Commander VS with SCG and Commander Clash, have their own baggage.

Its a shame the desolator thread is dead, because his plan to release a video on "beating the house" at slots that gets millions of views is hilarious.

Its literally the most well-known slots advice: 1) play machines on aisles, 2) during a busy time of time, 3) that have a high multiplier.

HE CRACKED THE CODE!
