Not really, no. Magic:The Gathering already skirts with two incredibly touchstone religious philosophies. Namely, occult magics warned about in the Christian tradition, and the unseen world of the fairies warned about in celtic religious practice.
Not surprising it's a synthesis. It emerges from the English speaking Celtic milieu. It's dangerous however in the context of combining that with Tolkien and then making the One Ring the singular atavstic focus of the enterprise.
Even if you are not superstitious, you have to admit there is something deeply wrong with making the One Ring the most coveted card in the game right. Worth millions of dollars apparently. Tolkien would be horrified by the notion. Probably even more then I am, and I am so horrified I wish damnation on the enterprise.
I will not be surprised at all that in the coming years everyone around that card comes to misfortune.
