WotC is hosting a VML league (which is not the same as the Vintage Magic League that was ran previously), for 2 spots in the Pro Tour. Given the description of it, it's probably best not to ask what VML stands for in this case:

The league pretty much forbids anyone that is a regular male person, from participating:

good god, they honestly expect people to show up and care if some tranny knows how to play a standard deck? they can barely get people to watch when someone *normal* can play standard... this won't help boost their numbers for the pro tour. Also, I love that they've basically told any transmen to fuck off since they identify as men.

I definitely like the idea of Adventure commanders, though it feels like a waste that there's no card that lets you cast Adventures from the battlefield.

Are you the audience that primarily enjoys our game? Well fuck we want those Yugioh darkies!

Wait... how does adventure work from command zone?

If you've played her and she's been popped, instead of paying commander tax, can you adventure her out, then cast her for 3 from exile?

Is this Derevi all over again?

I read those first few words and felt a very rare sense of excitement that WOTC might actually show vintage some love. But nope, more divisive idpol shit.
That dude from a couple pages ago was right, Old School magic is the shit. I wasn't playing anywhere near that time so it's not even nostalgia I just love the old cards.

Why is that using the UK spelling of marginalized? I find that one odd mostly because Wizards is a US company.

Whichever side you cast, however you cast it, costs 2 more. So the adventure costs 2 more, but when when you cast it from exile, it's the normal cost.

This is how noncreature commanders (backgrounds) and swapping sides of double-faced cards functions (IE, if you cast Valki, Tibalt will later cost 2 more to play even though you didn't play that side). It's easier to think of the command zone as a 'slot,' and anything you play from that slot costs 2*N mana as an additional cost. Partner and Background simply give you an extra, independently tracked slot, but modal cards only occupy one slot.

Both Halves are subject to the command tax, Not that I think you would ever cast that half of the spell unless things have gone terribly wrong because there are gonna be a whole 25-30 Adventure cards that will be worth using after Eldraine 2 : Niggo Qweens Riiizeee

Personally I think this guy from the DnD commander set is probably a better adventure commander than the new one just on account of being a lucky clover in the commander zone.

Also Prosper Tome-Bound is better at adventures but it limits you to two colors which is a real cost (although you will never run out of good cards to shove into a Prosper Tome-Bound deck so whatever)

Thanks guys. I get partner and background but since adventure was a "subset" of the card I didn't know if it got around commander tax like Derevi or still counted.

Looks like they want to give more support to adventure type stuff.

Also duel-wielding pie knight.

EDIT: Oh yeah, WotC apparently decided we're allowed to have cheesecake again.

According to the Wiki it stands for Venus and Mercury league (I know the saying "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus" but I've never heard a version of it which included Mercury so this is odd)

Based on VML's site it is now on season 10 so it's probably been around for a few years and the recent Pro Tour BS is because it caught the eye of someone in WotC.

Now for the thread tax - here is VML's hall of fame, between the male pattern baldness + trans flags in their Twitter bios I think they are all TiMs. Leave it to WotC to give all the diversity spots to autistic men.

Edit to add: Here is VML's first-ever newsletter, apparently this is their first attempt at a championship despite being around for several seasons (I am not sure how this terminology works so feel free to correct me here). There is a featured player segment and you will be completely unsurprised to hear they profiled a TiM with a personal Discord server.

I mean I hate Adventure as a mechanic so more support is a bad thing for me, However those support cards don't really fix my issue with Beluna as a commander, those all would still be misses on her Adventure side, as someone who has a 5C Niv in his main deck you need lots of hits for something like this to be worthwhile (I run Niv because of how he combos with other cards rather than for value so I mostly don't care if I miss..and he is still on the chopping block anyways)

I honestly don't think there -IS- a good Adventure Commander.

Gorion has a good enough ability, but it is missing out on Black which has two of the Better Adventures, and I can't find anything GBx that really fits with what adventures are doing.

Anything that enables you to recast them has some text, so Muldrotha or Ravos partnered with anyone Green has some text here. Problem is that Gorion is one of the few commanders that feels powerful enough to build adventures around. There are lots of commanders that can find them relevant, but 2/3 of all the adventure cards (on scryfall this second) are common/uncommon so it's ultimately kind of doomed unless your table's power level is very, very low.

I double checked to make sure but Muldrotha doesn't let you adventure from the Graveyard unfortunately.

Maybe that Jund Blitz guy, lots of the "Bad" Creatures attached to Adventures are just giant fatties without much to them, being able to cast them for cheap might help.

Maybe Yidris would work well for adventures? casting adventures and cascading into things seems like an interesting concept... makes me think of the pioneer possibility storm brew I saw floating around a few years ago that used adventure creatures to flip into enter the infinite.
