Got an extra Tomb Raider secret lair for free. Finally, WotC's incompetence benefits me!

On the one hand, WotC has great profit margin and it would make much more sense to cut literally anywhere else at Hasbro, but on the other hand Hasbro execs are literal retard glue huffers so it could go either way.
Hasbro is just so painfully incompetent. They have some of the best IPs in the business, but holy shit buying anything they make is a chore.

KTK is live on arena as of yesterday, and while I have very fond memories of kahns block, holy shit is the set a low powered mess. I feel like my ability to draft having gotten better has done me a disservice for drafting this set, but it sure is a fun time. I didn’t get to draft the set back when it first came out, and it’s very refreshing to have these stupid common morphs be some of the better creatures you can play. Mardu slaps everything else out of the park Imo unless you open a bomb in pack one. Also they redid a bunch of art??? And I don’t know why for half of them.

Almost every set outside of the top few cards is a low powered mess.

Eldraine? Okay you got Oko, Embercleave and the Henge as actually strong shit..but like The Adventure cards are typically just kind of Mediocre on both sides and the only reason they see play in older formats is because of how cascade works and Pioneer doesn't have lightning bolt so a 4/3 is the best upside a shock has in the format.

Modern Horizons (both) : Okay the Top cards absolutely shattered the format but like..Seasoned Pyromancer is one of the stronger cards in the set but doesn't see play because well..you got a ton of other 3 drops.

I specifically meant in the sense of a limited environment. I’ll agree that every set is a bunch of garbage they tell you are cards, with a few select gems that build the formats they’re legal in, but compared to the more recent drafting environment, KTK is like trying to build a functional deck out of the bulk your friend was given by their dad when they told him they wanted to try playing magic the gathering.

>Communists
>Fat

Pick one.
Vaush and that one maoist guy, but I was also thinking that Selesnya would be the guild that had all the worst parts of evangelical church ladies and dangerhairs.

"Quit listening to that rakdos music, they're problematic demon worshippers!"

Which is the preferred feel of a draft format for everyone except two groups of people:
People who don't like limited
Whatever intern is sleeping with the higher-ups at WOTC and sold them on FIRE design

Modern limited is at its best milquetoast, and at its worst battle of the bombs. Everything is on-rails, the decks draft themselves, and we're at a point of power creep where a 2/2 for 2 with significant upside is now downgraded to a "probably the 24th card." The last one I can say I enjoyed was Brother's War, but even that's half-true: I enjoyed it after word got out that it was a fast format. In the earlier months, you would just pick all the 1&2-drops and win; only after you weren't able to consistently get all of them did it become a far more enjoyable and diverse format.

The modern equivalent of Khans is Streets, and Streets really flexed just how retarded and sloppy they've gotten with modern card design vis a vis the 2/1 for 3 flying draw a card that warped the entire format around it. This year has been fast format, bomb format, force RB format, fast format, fast format. I've done one or two of each and then just found them so repetitive I had to stop.

I completely agree. I hope enough people really like the KTK draft, and that it gets good enough numbers that WOTC decides to cool it on the fire design. I recently wanted to brew some interesting decks at a lower power level to bring to game night as psudo dual decks, and limited myself to a $5 budget for each deck (excluding any basic lands) and I had so much fun making them. Having a limited card pool with no massively overpowered auto takes is what makes draft interesting.

To be fair if there's going to be fat people in any guild it's probably the Selesnya.
Orzhov so fat, even its ghosts are rotund.

At least their living girl is finally getting some decent art.

(not including the other artwork which is good, but they took away the boob window)

I love it. Look, the original Evangel (and almost everything from original Rav) has this incredible, distinct, memorable style that just oozes from the cards. Modern art is mostly totally forgettable, or horrendously gauche to the point where I have to question if they even have someone in charge of design.

But this is goofy, stupid, and ridiculous. It reminds me of fucking Divine from Pink Flamingos. I know the artist certainly didn't intend that, but it's better for it.
Her face looks exactly the same as any other anime woman's face. Her clothing looks like any other anime woman clothing. The pose is horrendously off-center in a baffling way - she has always been off-center in her previous incarnations, usually to reflect something else. Scion reflects her low position in the mafia, envoy offers this scheming expression, and karlov reflects this regal air of authority, with that nice head-tilt like Queen Marchesa. Here, she looks like an anime woman with a cane.

It's really only better than the guild kit art - sure, that one sucks balls. Envoy of Ghosts really isn't a particularly good card, but it is a pet card that I try to include in reanimator-style decks here and there just because of how hilarious the effect is - and because the art is the best of the bunch for this particular character. Looks great in foil.
