@Cheeseknife, add the leaks particularly ranging from March of the Machine: Aftermath to the whole of Dominara being leaked as noteworthy events.
This was something that showed up recently. From what I gather, a private security team (The Pinkertons) raided some guy's house to take back WotC's stolen property. I've read the story a few times and something stinks. The whole thing looks like a PR stunt.

Yea there is something where they could use leaks to drum up PR where it's just one card from a box or just some "accidental" product showings. But the Dominaria one is known because it was a text document featuring almost all the cards from the set.

Wizards has had a ton of leaks, they had to ban their World Championship winners, both with the name Wafo-Tapo Guillaume because they leaked the god book for New Phyrexia I think? By the way, pro players got the whole set spoiled to them months in advance, because reasons.

Edit: Also, lol, lmao even Wafo-Tapa

A problem with mtg currently is a need to appeal to the ignorant and indifferent, as opposed to the immersed and passionate. The most aggregious example of this is the BLM bans. "cleanse" was banned specifically because it targeted "black" creatures. Some of which are actually fair skinned. Liliana being the best example. In this way, Wizards deliberately misled the ignorant on the nature of the game while choosing to harm the game at the expense of the actual players.

The same goes for WOTCs desire to no longer work with Tirese Nielson and deliberately replace all of her iconic artwork in later printings of cards. This was a direct result of a small group of leftists claiming she was a right wing terrorist who was homophobic/transphobic. She is a self admitted lesbian, something well known in the community. Once again ignored for the benefit of the ignorant to the deteriment of players who enjoyed her iconic style.

There are examples of this again and again and again, and any company that does this feels the pain eventually.

Although this is minor, compared to other MTG drama incidents, would it be worth noting about pro player Yuuya Watanabe getting caught using marked Urzatron lands, which got him DQed from a tournament, a 30 month suspension, and was removed from the MTG Hall of Fame? (And obviously because it discredited the stereotype that Japanese players are honorable)

Here's the marked Urzatron lands in question:

Something like this seems more community-related and not so much business related. The WotC coverage would with WotC in general and how they're running the business now compared to how it was run 10+ years ago. Currently we're seeing them subvert the fantasy genre of the game in such a way that caters to woke ideologues that move the game further away from its roots into pure political pandering.

Was there something particularly noteworthy about Yuuya cheating other than that he was caught cheating?

It both amuses and disgusts me how the modern way of respecting native culture is by disbarring them completely from any piece of media.
You could even analogize that to how expensive some of these things have become--to the extent that they expect regular players to keep up with whales. I don't get all the hubub about projecting woke virtue signaling in these games and turning that into some kind of public good will if the public doesn't have the kind of dosh lying around to pay for said product.

Some people who have spent half their lives with the game are coming to the realization that the current game has little to offer nowadays. This is unfortunate and it needs to change.

Magda and Dualist are the only two cards that have an effect I think are playable, but spoiler season is only two days in… we’ll see what else is on the table.
Intimidation Campaign is infinite discard fodder if you could get something that could use that. Freestrider Lookout could be fun for landfall decks though I'd imagine for most of those their crimes would be off land triggers so there'd need to be a way to start the triggers off in the opponent's turn too.

Like you say, plenty of ways to trigger them though.
I think the 2 Drop Vampire has a chance to be busted, have you seen the Timeless Surveil Deck that uses Thought Bound Phantasm?
Looks alright, though has the once per turn cap at least. Still can be good on a full cycle though not seen the Timeless deck.

Hrm, Rule of Law but costing 1 less mana. Control decks happy I guess.

This just seems another skirmish in the eternal battle of lore fags vs. flavor fags. MtG is exactly what this guy is decrying: a game system. Any and every attempt to turn it into an IP like Marvel or Star Wars waters down the flavor of the game and turns into a bland mush filled with unmemorable characters like "random snake lady," "generic black lady" and "generic black dude." If you want a story, read a fucking novel. I just want to play cool-looking cards that do interesting things.

The Timeless Surveil deck is pretty nuts
Phantasm.png
Basically it puts one of those on the field, and just plays the game. Between Dragon Rage Channeler and the Surveil lands it just becomes an 8/8 just playing the game like you normally would.

Crime kind of works on the same Axis as you are getting a Bonus for doing the things you are already doing as a normal course of the game, Think of the Two Drop Vampire in The Pioneer vampire deck (The Winning one had two dusk legion Zelots it can replace easily) you play it and play the game normally and unless it's removed it just kind of grows on it's own and becomes a must answer threat..and without Dusk Legion Zealot basically every creature in the deck is must answer except For Blood-Tithe Harvester.

And the Sorin Rakdos Vampires Runs grows it so it synergizes with one of the Splinter Twin parts, in all honesty I think that new Gissa they did with the crime trigger of making zombies would be absolutely busted if they didn't come into play tapped.

Is there a variant of Commander that doesn't take 4 fucking hours where the entire gameplay is everyone racing like sedated snails to set up some big autistic combo to fuck everyone else over and win through autism alone? Or is that just how it is?

I feel like there's hardly any meaningful interaction or combat. It's just people drawing cards and trying to go infinite or be able to deal lethal to the entire table at once through some bullshit. The game just..... happens.

No format is that popular besides Commander in my area. I've gone to drafts and standard stuff, but there, everyone is supermega anal and competitive and mean, there's no fun in the air, it's really weird. They all flick through their cards and have these bigass deck boxes that look like tool boxes. I went to a draft thing on a whim and ended up winning the bracket and getting some prizes. No fewer than 3 autismos were visibly angry that I was getting cards when "I'm not even serious." I legit didn't know the name of the set the draft was about or anything, I just showed up because it was my day off, trying to have fun. And because I was bullshitting around half the time and I think people were going easy on me.... and then losing because I just kept making their life total go down, while they were trying to build some combo that I can't even comprehend. I barely read my cards besides the pips at the top right and the numbers at the bottom. My strategy in drafts is to first take all the cards with as little text at possible for my own use, and then take the cards with too much text to prevent others from playing them.

My main commander deck is Ghalta of course. I know nothing about the meta and the only news I really get is word of mouth from all the friends I've made through MtG, which is the only reason I really play. All of my decks were made for me by friends: they say it's fun to design for me because I play like an absolute retard crazy person.

I fucking hate MtG. I play it in person multiple times a week and have a blast with all my friends, but it's the Walmart of physical games.

@bliblblblbbllb i can’t reply to your post but I think the only solution to your problem is finding a dedicate playgroup that feel the same way about commander as you do. That or build a deck that is as toxic to combo players as possible, which ever sounds more fun.

I gotta say your approach to drafting is fucking hilarious and I’m so glad it stomped. What set were you drafting?

What do you want from a game of EDH and could you explain what you mean by "meaningful interaction"? When I think of interaction in EDH I think of cards that answer an opponents threats and just want to understand what you mean.

This set is really bad, but it's stupid easy to draft. Disguise is pretty cool for Mana fixing. Plus you've got tribal detective, and mill/delve lite.

If you want to fuck over combo fags play more stax/hate bears and include blue for counterspells.

If you want games to end play Group Slug/Group hug with a combo finish.

Any group that doesn't play fast combos like Anything + Thassa's Oracle will eventually figure out that you just play board wipes in every deck and will arrive at the boardwipe mexican stand-off sooner or later.

If you want to tap your commander and win games on the board you probably shouldn't play 100 mana mono green stompy commanders that need a turn to attack. Even the worst, most degenerate combo fag is going to have a certain amount of removal/protection against creatures even if only to stop the other combo guy from doing one of 20 Kiki-jiki based war crimes. In mono green I'd recommend something cheap and straight forward that is an enabler not the payoff like Selvala or fucking weird and degenerate like Grothama

Combat before turn 10.
Trading pieces like in chess ("I attack your thing- I know it makes my thing vulnerable, but I'll risk it because getting rid of your thing is worth it!")
A rapidly changing boardstate- in most of the games I've played, it becomes evident after turn 10ish whose combo is going to happen and who is crippled for whatever reason, and a pod of 4 or 5 people into a game where 2 people are racing to make their combos work and everyone else is waiting to die or simply betting on the chance to draw that one card to board wipe and make the game last another 45 min.
I actually like cards that force your opponents to do things like pay mana or life to draw or play cards. I rarely play a green deck without Essense Warden or white without Suture Priest, even though it makes me such a target every single time. My playgroup hates effects like those for some reason. In my idea of fun, everyone is playing cards like that, not Slivers. Fuck slivers. And fuck those D&D dungeon cards.

I like Planeschase and play with it as often as possible because of how it makes stuff actually happen and shakes up the dynamic of the game. The planeschase deck I use is also slightly modded in order to be biased towards effects that make the game go faster like getting extra land drops.

Probably my favorite card is Share The Spoils followed by Flood of Mars because what fun mechanics lol. Anything that involves people ending up with each other's cards, or cards changing unwilling into other cards, is fun in my book. I don't think I even have decks with those cards though. I just like to play against them.

I can't believe I haven't heard of Grothama before! That seems right up my alley.

I was a big blue-hater for a long time because I've been stubborn about selesnya for the whole decade I've been playing, but maybe I should open my horizons and see if I can force more fun into my games.

The draft thing was a few years back. I think it was Ravinca Allegience. I give most of my cards away to buddies in exchange for them building me decks because I refuse to follow the meta or look at mtg-related media influencers due to all the trannies and SJW shit. Ignorance is bliss.

I know commander games are long but I think something is actively unbalanced in my playgroup that games just drag on and on and on. I have been in several games where we had a newcomer, and the newcomer scooped because "I'm not doing this anymore" after boardwipe no. 3. We also have a few people that bring ragamuffin children who can barely play, which is fine in theory but their turns take 3x as long because they don't know what's going on, which adds hours to the games throughout the night.

I still have fun shooting the shit and seeing everyone- I still go regularly, but yeah the actual game I'm not so in love with.
