Time for Maro to get promoted so he can take the blame and white knight for the woman.
I feel like MaRo is a massive sperg they keep around as a joke. Even Patrick Sullivan, the soy champion, at one point recounts a story where he gave input about the Graft mechanic to MaRo who had a meltdown because he couldn't take criticism.

WotC and Hasbro Gaming President Cynthia Williams will be resigning from her positions.

It sounds like she's trying to jump ship, before the MTG bubble bursts and brings all of Hasbro down with it, since WotC is the only Hasbro division that isn't losing money:

+10% growth over the past year actually isn't that bad. I see absolutely no reason at all for WOTC to correct course. The main breakdown I want to see is earnings based on division at WOTC. Is paper actually showing growth over the past year, or is it stagnant with only arena increasing?

No one likes Maro, like others have said, he's a massive cooperate suck up that they know will( and has) put the company before his own self interests. Mainly he was a poor attempt to replace Mark rosewater as the face of magic and never panned out. Journalists and shills still push him because they fell for the meme and just can't be stopped.

Yeah, I'm actually retarded, because I was thinking of Richard Garfield instead.
Bill Rose was actually an ok replacement for Garfield, but MaRo hated his stance of things like cantrips being rare to keep the game from devolving into extreme power creep. I'm pretty sure combo winter and Urza's block bullshit was the result of MaRo taking over for Bill Rose as MaRo wanted to really show him what fun could be.

historic mode

>27,000+ unique cards
>full access
>complete creative control to make any deck you want
>60% of playerbase uses one of 3 (edit: ok 4) meta control decks with 50 turn win con
>probably not even playing against a real human

Unless Historic has really changed in the last 3 months I haven't been paying attention it was pretty much a even split between Aggro horseshit like Wizards and burn, Combo decks like oops all spells and dragonstorm, both like Yagmoth and various cute lifegain/token coco piles, and "midrange" (translation: Black based Sheoldred + One Ring piles). You're apparently playing Elementals which is a tier 2 pioneer deck (that I think is missing several cards on arena even). Like even the good Omnath is borderline power crept out of historic, I can't even think of a deck you should be beating in historic with that kind of deck.

Also that's a great example of trolling yourself through refusing to concede, there is not a single control player in the world that is going to be bothered by you griefing yourself while they win by attacking with a 1/1 token over 20 turns.

I'm still flabbergasted by the number of times I've seen somebody refuse to give up in a situation where it's obvious they are basically just fucked. Like one of those states where you have the cryptic command / mystic sanctuary thing going on and things like that. There are others, but that's one of the things that pops to mind.

So anyway... I got drunk and ordered a collector's booster box of outlaws...

(yes that's the raised foil)

There was still a bunch of other money cards in it too which shocked me tbh.

Of all of the Games of Magic I've played on Arena, my absolute favorite was such a game. It was a singles game in standard, and I was playing rouges in the time of zendikar and eldraine when clover Ugin was meta. When Ugin hit the board I knew I was screwed, but I never yielded. I simply waited killing and countering each creature I could. I watched my opponents deck go from 40 to 15 cards until finally, he had only 1 card left in his deck and I was staring down lethal the next turn with an empty hand, I had no draw or filter. All of my into the stories were spent. I drew a card. Land. I tapped Lochtwein going to 1. Thieves Guild Enforcer. If I could've, I would have made sure that the land I played that turn was the one I tapped.

Yeah, I mean there is a spectrum of "I am completely fucked but I think I can turn it around" situations. I've played a lot of hopeless situations out and won some of them, but you have to be in the right deck and the odds can't be that dire. In my experience I usually play out a lot of Gearhulk Creativity matches just because it's explosive enough that I can threaten 15-20 health in a single turn cycle with the right draws. In Specko's case he has to have a draw that can deal with 16 life, a Teferi Emblem and a significant presence on board at 0 permanents. That's a lot more dire than a Ugin 3 balling you and preventing you from getting more than 1 turn cycle with any creature because you get to play them on his endstep. You were still in that game, until you weren't

Financially, the duration of her tenure was a smash hit. Ridiculous improvements on overhead by direct-to-amazon, the LoTR set working out tremendously, and the ever-true adage that MTG players will gladly bitch while handing you over several mortgage payments for cardboard. For all the "damage" the scandals under her tenure were supposed to be inflicting, the company's performance has been fine. People who suggest that the OGL controversy lost them a lot of business are out of their fucking mind; who actually buys the DND books? Everyone under the sun just pirates the damn things - and so BG3 bringing in a lot of cash more than made up for their aborted attempt to revise an (overgenerous) game license.

That the company has no replacement lined up suggests pretty heavily that she left abruptly - perhaps because she got headhunted; perhaps because she didn't get a pay increase she wanted; perhaps because she said there were only two sexes in a meeting with the creative team - who knows? MKM doing somewhat-poorly is recency bias to the extreme: you don't survive M30 just to drop out at MKM.

If anything, I don't see whoever comes next dialing down the grubby monetization. The modern playerbase loves that shit - they can't resist burning their money.
