And I would argue that every single one that focues on Tribal shit is fucking awful, The last Tribal deck to see serious play was in fucking 2008.

In the perfect world where they are all balanced, but this never ends up being true and you always end up with a limited format of "One or two tribes that are good and the rest of the colors just ingore the entire concept and just take good cards. Hell I don't even recall giving a shit about the Tribal synergy in Bloomburrow.

Has it been? Like the most Successful Bloomburrow Cards are the Red/X aggro and that deck was playable before Bloomburrow and is kinda held together by Monsterous Rage more than any Tribal Synergies. Bloomburrow is also the "Best" set of the year with the shitty Murder mystery, the Shitty Outlaw set and the shitty Horror Set, and it's still not the best set in the year because Foundations kind of blows it out of the water.

like humans and elves aren’t good NOW, people still play them because creature type matters is an easy to understand concept that you can get into. decks don’t have to be good to make people happy, which is horseshoe theory in magic displayed at its best. And if they keep trying the same idea over and over..and it repeatedly fails its a bad idea. Some Tribal support here and there is fine, but entire sets around Tribal always end up worse off than if they weren't.

it never fucking was, Those sets are fucking trash and I dread when we go back and get a Tranny Elf being called a Perfect.


Edit : I say this as someone whose EDH decks have kind of all devolved into Tribal stuff just because it keeps decks kind of Unique, I don't mind Tribal effects..but holy fuck every set that focuses on it ends up being god awful including Bloomburrow, the best part of Bloomburrow are the god damn Talent cards.

Off the top of my head Rogues in Kalheim standard and more recently Azorious Soldiers and Jodah Humans (or Jodah in general if you count Legendary as a tribal) . I think at the same time as those two humans was the obligatory white based aggro deck. Also Bant Toxic was a real deck and still (technically) exists and is basically Phyrexian tribal.

Neither Rogues or Azorious Soldiers really came together as truly competitive deck, and the rogues deck kind of proves my point, it came from 2 different lords from 2 different sets and not a dedicated Tribal set.

Bant Toxic was never a real competitive deck but kind of like Soldiers that Kind of has to do with the fact that Cut Down basically guts any Aggro deck that can't instantly grow out of it's range (and even Mono Red/Gruul really folds to it). Cut Down should probably get banned with the new Rotation, 3 years of it is very likely a little too much...so long as it is in standard Black/X is going to be at the top of the format.
 
Rogues was sort of in a weird place as a 1.5 deck (although it was competitive and when 8 of your 16 creatures are lords in the Lurrus builds I think it counts as a tribal) but Soldiers and Bant Toxic (and Jodah decks) both had multiple sets of being T1.
 
I just love the whole bitching about WOTC doing power creep, losing blocks, etc etc - but then when WOTC tries to do something more offbeat, more flavorful - "this sucks, it's not T1 competitive."

I guess they should just keep making companions. THOSE had an impact in Vintage and Legacy didn't they? They were showing up in T1 decks.

I think "Power Creep" is kind of becoming a dead horse meme* and losing blocks was entirely because of Lazyness, "Oh no we have to put effort into making sets and run out of steam after card number 400"

*There has been power creep but like most of the broken ass cards in the past decade are just outright retard mistakes that keep getting made LIKE FUCKING SUBVERTING MANA COSTS...STOP MAKING FREE CARDS.
 
Guys, I had nothing to do, so I opened their new article about the planes touched by that intradimensional rally. It was mildly interesting, reading about how the existing planes been after that whole thing. And then my sides left for the orbit.
One of the new gods of Amonkhet is a rare Pepe. With tits, no less. Amonkhet = Kekistan confirmed.

Lost Caverns of Ixalan wasn't a tribal set, when the original was. Llorwyn would get the same treatment - pressed through the template.

Functionally, Bloomburrow wasn't a tribal draft. Sure, there were a few cards in a few colors that cared, but for the most part the types just aligned with a given color pair.

Yes there have literally been SJWs on X over the years that have demanded niger rename itself, or have made up some "native" name that it "really" is called, not "niger" like the "white man" calls it.

Every so often they discover that "negro" is the word for black in some languages and they find it on a crayon or other product and similarly freak out. It's glorious.
