Start Your Engines is such a mismanaged mechanic, holy shit. There's zero indication anything will care at 1, 2, or 3 counters and there's no way to downshift or any risk/reward. Typical modern MTG design failure.
It should be more dependant on the creature. Like if it attacked this turn it gains speed, and if it didn't attack it loses a speed. Maybe +1/+1 also for each speed it has.

That's a good start, but I'd still like to see some risk. Going too fast should have consequences in some circumstances to reference falling off the track or hitting a wall, thematically speaking.

Edit - A clean solution combining yours with what I want would be making them +1/-1 effects, for example.

That's the whole plot of the expansion. A bunch of former Planeswalkers trying to get their Spark back while also fighting off other legendaries who also want it. No idea why Chandra's in the race unless she's there to give people hoverbikes

chandras in the race to win it so she can give nissa her spark back so they can be gay planeswalkers together.

i hate all mechanics with a name that pretty much forces it to only thematically make sense in the set its released

so i hate start your engines.

Should have stuck with a sexy goth girl when she had the chance. Better than being with some pointy eared BD whore who doesn't know which colour she's going to be from set to set.

They could have used the tap and untap symbols to indicate shifting gears to get different effects on some cards but they decided to use such things on exhaust instead. We'll likely see cards that change what speed the card is at and enchantments or artifacts that care about certain speeds on cards

Still feel like that Gishath rip is more fun than Zacama being an outlet for infinite mana in my opinion.
Oh I don't mean with infinite mana shenanagins, I just mean casting it as a creature with a body, some keywords and some mediocre abilities.

Even in like super low power games where you get a decent hit with Gishath, it just never seems like what you are doing is all that impressive.

Took all fuckin morning of refreshing the Goatbots inventory on their website to snatch up copies before the prices skyrocketed, but I finally got a playset of something very special that I have been wanting since the original card was released all the way back in Innistrad:

DELVERS!.png
retro frame delvers!!!

I made sure I was early...before anyone even had any to sell there were absolutely zero on the market and the price was 0.20 cents each. I can all but guarantee they will be $5-10 bucks a piece just like all the other retro frame staples once today is over. They have slowly crept up a couple dollars since this morning when I snagged my very first one...I had to find them one at a time since they are so scarce right now. There will be more available this evening I bet once the drafts finish.

Here is the entire haul for the morning:

I grabbed some stuff to mess around with in some pauper decks as well as retro frames of a couple other things I play in Modern and Legacy like Eldrazi Breach and of course the Craterhoof for elves, but the Delvers were the main focus. I knew they were coming for a week now and wanted to secure four copies before they shot way up due to demand. it was a huge pain to snag all these so early. I am tired of sniping the bots so I will have to grab the remainder of the Snapcasters and final Breach copy later, though the Snaps are for sure gonna be an expensive retro frame, at least for awhile. I paid like $0.90 for this one and the only other one I saw for sale all morning about half an hour later had gone up dramatically (missed grabbing that one, too). the Liliana also immediately blew up in value comparitively.

so glad Wizards finally made retro frame Delvers.

The mechanic isn't individual per-card, but rather is just something you as a player have. Here's the token:

So it functions like the Ring, in that you chain upwards. Unlike the ring, you just... have it, and the effects are based around the cards, not the mechanic itself. Why speed only goes up, and how speed relates to you causing your opponent to lose life... I'm not really sure. It's an un-set mechanic in a set that exists because one of the designers watched Redline. That's the only influence I can see here.

Oh, other than them ripping a frame style off of Pokemon.

I think I'll just start skipping the 'main' MTG set releases. It's getting to be a bit too embarrassing.

Dis nigga goes to magic the gathering conventions in his 40s while thinking he's better than Patrick S Tomlinson.

Lol.
Faggot.

No broken free creatures so no.

Good god Nissa looks ugly now. Chandra still wants that? Must have a few screws loose. Explains why she's interested in artifacts now.
