I wish it had a once per turn clause because blue can easily make this go infinite in commander.
Jeskai ascension, retraction helix targeting Kilo, and any zero mana artifact comes to mind immediately for me. Sure it’s a four card combo, but I’m pretty sure there’s a good number of other back up effects that would allow for this combination to go off. I might even be excited to try to build that combo engine if Kotis hadn’t felt like it tickled the same urge for me only to be a much shallower puzzle to solve than I’d thought, which has me apprehensive to bother with it.

You keep bringing that up like some kind of own.
Because if you want to act as the all-knowing oracle - you best have a solid track record.

I just find it ironic... how did you put it earlier...
Primeval Titan should NEVER come off the ban list, Overlord of the Hauntwoods is a good Primeval Titan at home without the obscenity that is getting the utility lands that have been powercrept into the stratosphere lately, there is no world where.

"Primeval Titan into Talon Gates of Madara and Mirrorpool" Should be a thing in EDH.
So now you can do that for 2 mana cheaper (Talon Gates is literally a gate) and you're saying it's not good enough? Or even that being able to fetch utility lands for 1 mana isn't "good enough" if it goes to your hand instead of straight to the field?

Ok this has all actually been about setting up a Remy song.

and any zero mana artifact comes to mind immediately for me.
At last its time to shine...

And you keep naming the same one.

One that most people were low on until the bullshit with "One Ring into drawing another One Ring and resetting the counters" became a thing so yeah I missed on One Ring in 60 card (non Vintage...lets be real every 1-4 cost artifact can break in vintage cause LMAO WE REFUSE TO RESTRICT MISHRA'S WORKSHOP) formats.

In EDH its good, its super busted if you have it early but does kind of get worse the longer into the game you are in (unless you are doing cheathy untap stuff). I have it in some decks but I don't think it is outright overpowered to the point where it is the best card draw in every single deck, especially given that sometimes late game you want a massive instant burst of Card Draw (People no longer Respect Sphinx's Revelation enough)

The reason Prime Time is gross with Talon Gates is that Prime Time can grab Talon Gate, get phased out..and a Bounce Land to bounce Talon Gates back to your hand...so that when you untap you have instant speed protection available since things Phase in During Untap.

Honestly I just don't think Gates are very good t, like Baulder's Gate is worse Nykthos/Cabal Coffers..and I don't think Cabal coffers is all that amazing since now even in Mono Color we have so many utility lands and MDFC type things that...you kind of have to have Urborg for Cabal Coffers to be super amazing. Honestly the last time I did the Maze's end thing was when I was playing with a discord group..and we played on MODO with budget and scapeshift is super Cheap on MODO.

It was super funny to listen to the 3 other players wonder why I am casting scapeshift without any landfall out cause none of them really noticed a bunch of tap lands in a 5 color budget deck.

Limited technology: the blue crystal is actually pretty good in the blue/red spells deck. I didn't notice at first that it would also boost self-mill, which is awesome. Forcing them to mill 7 from shinra reinforcements or 8 from town greeter is insane when mill is your gameplan.
The downside is you have to account for the cost reduction taking you under the 4 cost threshold. (Blue basically has no non-creature spells on 5, so it screws up a lot of your non-flashback stuff.)

These are the Day 2 results from the Final Fantasy Pro Tour. Top 8 is all red aggro decks. The absolute state of Standard.
Standard is dead and it's not coming back. Not because of this Pro Tour or anything, but just because it has no reason to exist as a format anymore.

See, for the longest time, Standard was the format you played not because you wanted to, but because it was the format everyone else played*. FNM was Standard, most PTs and their associated PTQ seasons were Standard, most GPs were Standard, Nationals/Regionals were Standard, and so on - if you wanted to play Magic in an LGS, you needed to have a Standard deck. But by the end of the 2010s, that was starting to change: Modern was displacing Standard as the format of choice for serious competitive players, and EDH was displacing Standard as the format of choice for casual players. Then, a bunch of things happened in rapid succession:

1) FIRE Design started;
2) Eldraine kicked off a run of busted sets;
3) The pandemic shut down the in-person play ecosystem that supported Standard;
4) WotC killed its competitive scene to chase e-sports dreams with Arena.

All of this killed Standard dead. Now, EDH is the default way to play Magic, and a lot of players will go their entire time in the game without ever once touching Standard. Competitive play is on life support and it's way harder to make money or grind the way you could back in the tournament circuit heyday. I doubt Wizards is even testing for Standard during set development anymore; they clearly missed that Monstrous Rage was one of the best pump spells ever printed, which is why they've been printing cards like CSC and the Mice package. Even if they are testing the format, it's not worth it financially to them to put too much effort in, since EDH is the main driver of product sales now and you don't have to test that at all.

*Even when people defended Standard, they tended to defend a particular Standard - I myself love the CHK-RAV and RAV-TSP Standards, but I wouldn't touch the modern version with a ten mile pole. Most players always seemed to be one set away from dropping out of the format, whether because their favorite deck rotated or the meta shifted to something they didn't like.

Then, a bunch of things happened in rapid succession:
You are forgetting how bad standard was even before FIRE design.

After the Rotation of Tarkir 1 standard fell off a cliff in Quality for years.

Crazy Cat Lady, Marvel Eldrazi, Various Flavors of Red aggro until History of Benalia got Printed and we got Mono White Aggro, then the stupid ass Mono Blue Tempo horseshit that the godawful enbie won with.

I myself love the CHK-RAV and RAV-TSP Standards
Those were good standards. Even having a T1 kill with UR Dragon Storm didn't have the toxic lashings from the Internet or community I remember. Back then, players almost liked getting to experience that type of rare game. Anymore, players I see want generic slop. The point of the rotating format was to limit for how long that type of gameplay was able to be experienced and naturally decay out of legality (as well as continue money machine going brrr).

Don't give MaRo ideas. I'm a grumpy old man, I refuse to learn how The Initiative works, and I don't have to as long as I can slam Trinisphere fast enough. I am OK with losing games where I allow the opponent to cast spells. Vintage is fine, I saw how well their R&D teams balanced Modern with their Horizons sets and don't need WotC thinking they will milk money out of the only real format I still enjoy playing.

I mean its fine..its just weird that every time Artifact decks break shit...they restrict the new artifact so Shops is like a bunch of broken 1 ofs and 4 workshops.

My personal head canon regarding red being pushed to fuck in standard is that it's on behalf of Arena.
>Mono red is almost always the cheapest "real" deck to craft (only exception I can ever think of was Boros cycling in Ikoria standard)
>Arena plays Bo1 and mono red is at it's best when no one gets to sideboard
>Mono red is usually the fastest to reach a legitimate win/loss and if that's not the case they will ban which ever combo deck is faster (see: Tibalt's Trickery)

My hypothesis is that the arena team can't convince Hasbro to let them make the economy better or hire the people necessary to make a non-shit client, so to try to keep players activity metrics high for their bosses and while keeping people churning packs they keep asking for pushed red shit in every standard set and because the MtG design team are still cucks on their best day they went along with it.

Heck a lot of it might be fixed if Arena's daily was PLAY 10 games and not WIN 10 games.

When you have to win to get your daily currency, why wouldn't you play mono red? Especially if you want to be done in any decent time.

this is 100% the reason i stopped playing. there’s nothing worse than trying to play an off-meta deck, losing to mono red 5 times in a row, and realizing you just wasted half an hour of your life and have nothing to show for it. one simple change would make the whole thing a lot more enjoyable for everyone and disincentivize only playing decks that win quickly to grind out your dailies.

Well RDW is best in 1 v 1 cause it is fast and no side boards means you can just kinda run over.

Back in the Kaladesh Era of Red/White aggo removal was effectively non existent.

Now Red is kind of held up by Monsterous Rage (I am not a Doomer about Cori-Steel Cutter, like.."Card that is really good with a bunch of Cantrips" isn't particularly new..)

I was trying to find a record/archive of something and stumbled upon a reddit post from 2020.

I'm still laughing while crying.

And yet...

Final Fantasy is my favorite set since Ixalan 1 and probably one of my top sets because well..they actually put effort into making the cards feel like the characters.

Edit : Started the lore podcast.

I see we are starting the new plot with a giant exposition dump instead of like..Jace..

Compare the last time that Jace found himself lost..

The man opened his eyes.

He lay on his back, looking up through a canopy of delicate green toward the darkening blue of the sky. Stalks of bamboo were rustling in a warm, drowsy breeze. He could feel through his bruises (and a tremendous headache) that the ground beneath him was plush with fallen leaves. It was quiet here, under the bamboo. The air tasted faintly of salt, and he could hear waves in the distance.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKK
Now we're ready. Now we can begin!

Close your eyes. Listen carefully. Do you hear that?

That's the mewl of a cat named Mirri.

Mirri was the very best of cats. Her human is—well, not the best of humans. But they do love their cat.

Like all ordinary cats, Mirri can weftwalk. Most cats will do this if you step on their tail, or drop a pan on the stove, or seem likely to put them in a carrier and abduct them to the vet.

That passage you quoted enrages me in ways I can't describe. And I'm not even a furry or anything, I'm just super extra pissed that all the "sensitive" SJW woke whatevers at WOTC apparently took personhood away from a minority in their universe.

It would be like picking up some arch-Christian fiction and watch them just casually blaspheme Jesus in it. WTF you idiots are supposed to be MOST sensitive about this stuff.

Well we are definitely uniting over hating this shit.
