It's a collector product for Marvel fan boys. That's the target audience. It doesn't matter how the set plays, you make some Commander slop for the Commander players and then the rest of your sales go to Spiderman fans.
 
Round one in the bag, I’m actually enjoying the cards so far but I did luck in U/B villains with Doc, sage of stone as my top end. Web-slinging doesn’t seem as bad as I’d first thought, but the set still feels like a poor attempt at a standard set. People opened near play sets of multiple rares, so I’m not going to be disappointed if I go 1-X for the rest of the night.

At least most of the art is cool.

Also, $750 is crazy to be charging for a new set’s collector box. Like even for a pandering set.
 
I think there's a reprint of heroic intervention for spiderkike, that's the only card that I think is good, and it's a reprint. The art is gay tranny Spiderkike shit but at least the card price will drop for the non spiderkike version. Who thought Marvel cape shit would fit magic, no one I've talked to is excited for this set. I hope this set is a bigger flop then aethertransition.
 
Ended the night at 1-2 as predicted. Both of my opponents had multiples of key legends, and I milled over my own win con in one of the games. I’m potentially excited for Doc ock to make Damia an acceptable commander again, but over all I’m very underwhelmed by this set. I’m also not big on seeing how this is going to go for FNM. I doubt people will show up to draft this set.

Only guy that opened one that I saw was a few loose packs before the event even started. I don’t know if the Spider-man UK is the same card as that one though…

All I'm saying is that it still would have sold well if there was some sort of fun or powerful mechanic instead of "return a tapped creature to your hand to play a mid card for it's actual and real cost or overpay". It's easy to imagine spikes buying up a set of Universes Beyond Bluey or whatever if it had pushed cards in it. They'd bitch but they'd do it.

The only web slinging card I saw that struck me as an interesting design was the counter instant/sorcery/stifle for U1 that could be cast for U if you returned a tapped creature to your hand because the instant timing makes it interesting and even if you don't cast if for U then U1 is still the going rate for limited counterspells in standard/pioneer.
 
I enjoy spider man but this set just isnt for me. Will get singles of my favorite characters and call it a day. Also idk if its just me but the set feels hollow? As if they had the abilities of cards made and just slapped the spider man skin and call it a day. Also some of the abilities for me dont match the characters. I dont expect 100% match but some are just weird for me like Carnage being a shitty sun titan.
 
I honestly think web-slinging would be better if it was a more expensive cost over the regular cmc and at instant speed. Even make the new creature unable to block or something. It would be more fitting for the idea of Spider-Man swinging in at just the right time to save the day.
 
Web-slinging as-is is bizarre. Why do you return a creature to your hand, exactly? How does that thematically work?

The actual answer seems pretty obvious to me: dash, but it gives the creature flying.

It's suppose to simulate Spider-Man pulling someone from danger (the battlefield) and him coming to the rescue.
 
Is this what's going to become of UB cards in the future? To be replaced by ugly, faggoty cards by the pozzed staff at WotC?

Which might make sense if you could do it in response but it doesn't effect timing restrictions so the flavor would be more like Spider Man stolen valoring your ass after you endangered yourself.

I think if you could fuck up some declared blocks by saving your creatures after-declared-blockers pre-damage-applied the flavor would actually be not terrible. Like weird worse ninjutsu.

Probably very few. They aren't exactly creative and mostly default to what's socially seen as prestigious or high earning as opposed to trends. Scalping on the other hand requires more of a hustler mentality which is usually Western in mentality, maybe Asian.

Do you really blame them? They can turn out complete slop or just throw art from other franchises onto carboard and sell more than ever. There's no reason for them to really try and by paying dirt cheap artists who are just happy to draw gay men on popular IPs they increase the bottom line. I blame consumers.
