I don't particularly care about the secret lair skins - whatever, that's sortof the established point. It's no more retarded than Princess Bride.

However, next-year's lineup... I'm skipping 90% of sets? Based wizards, really looking out for the consumer.

Star trek in Magic.

I'm so fucking pissed.

They won't even reference the animated series episode are they?

The upswping is that resonance is important for corporate retards. Spider-Man bombing is going to be dismissed as a fluke, and unfortunately Avatar will pick up the slack (the set also looks well-designed, so that helps). But next-year's lineup of UB... I mean, the Hobbit will probably be fine. They'll make the dwarves thai ladyboys but you know. The rest... not so much.
What's the set after Lorwyn? Also, why would they ever want to return to Strixhaven as opposed to other sets, it's an incredibly limited and shit concept.
An unannounced Universes Beyond.

Strixhaven is profitable for them because it lets Harry Potter addicts (see: troons) indulge in their vice without empowering She Who Will Not Be Named

It would be funny if Hasbro stepped in and had them include Harry Potter in the revisit to push sales. You know if they did there would be boycotts and it would still outsell the original Strixhaven set.

At least Mike Stiklosa will enjoy the Star Trek set.

I really hope the unannounced UB set is The Fast and the Furious so they can get some extra mileage out of the Aetherdrif mechanics. Oh, and it would be really, really funny.

Universes beyond will probably flop, Spider kike collectors' boxes are dropping in price rapidly and not many people were at the spider kike draft I went to. I think final fantasy did so well because it has such high fantasy elements and Sci-Fi elements in it and it does fit magic pretty well. This other nigger shit they are forcing down our throats doesn't fit MTG well. I Think this shit will damage the hobby and I hope it does, I hope all the nigger cattle slop UB sets fall flat.

Final Fantasy is also an absurdly popular video game franchise whereas superhero fatigue is a thing right now thanks to Disney overplaying its hand. The small core of Marvel fan boys who still care have no end of product to consoom, so they have little reason to buy this garbage unless they already play the game.

I wouldn't discount how putrid the set is, either. Several people I know who normally buy every new Magic release are sitting this one out specifically because the set itself is so unappealing.

The real test will be to see how Avatar does.

I don't get their strategy when it comes to picking UB franchises. It's not like there's a shortage of fantasy settings they could pick from which would have meshed better with the existing pre-UB identity of MtG. I don't see any point in doing shit like Star Trek when they could have done something like Dark Souls or Elden Ring which wouldn't look out of place in an universe that is primarily fantasy. These IPs would still generate shitload of sales without the risk of diluting the brand even further.
At least I can enjoy the schadenfreude of WotC definitively panicking after the Spiderman set has bombed because if they can't get satisfying numbers with a set like that they sure won't get it with another Marvel set or Star Trek. The Hobbit will probably sell well just like LoTR did, though I doubt I'm going to enjoy a set with an another shitty raceswap, I am sure they won't be able to resist fucking something up.

Spiderman is on the surface safe, but on further look really exceptional. The Marvelrot took hold on Spiderman in the late 90s and his comics have been terrible so the white comicbook nerd is like 15 years into spiderman fatigue, they still buy the comics because they feel they have to but no one is excited about anything Spiderman. Then when you get into the adaptations they've all been mediocre or really dated and basically don't appeal to a different demographic than the comic EXCEPT for Miles Morales/Into the Spiderverse fags who, being brown, don't really play TCGs or collect worthless pop culture garbage outside of Scarface posters.

Also his rogue's gallery sucks and the alternate universe crap is lame; getting so desperate for content you design and print Spiderman India is just fucking sad.

Unfortunately...
Question: How do you juggle releasing so many additional Universes Beyond sets while not overwhelming players?
Blake Rasmussen, Communications for Wizards of the Coast: “Different players want different things. Where we see Universes Beyond [complained about] the most is honestly online. Whereas when you go to a game store, when you go around and talk to people selling Magic cards on the show floor, there isn't actually people fatigued,” he said.
“There's what people say online and then there's what they actually do. And what we're seeing with what they do, Final Fantasy, is a great example. Nobody was talking about Universes Beyond fatigue, and that came out a few months ago. That's not to discount people that feel that way, people obviously do feel that way, and we talk to them and we listen to them.”

I do have to wonder what they really have to lose by doing this, the more I learn about the pro players the more I notice they're insufferable troons and those who are psychotically brain rotted by DEI initiatives. Sure, there are some normal people, but I think those have mostly moved onto other things long ago and the bean counters don't want to deal with constant mental illness.

Yes, we asked 10,000 people leaving Target and asked if they liked shopping at Target. This didn't bias or skew our results at all, and we got the 'line-go-up' data chart we wanted.

What a way to harvest useless data. If they wanted to actually measure this, it could be WPN store feedback like "How many of your customers are long-term customers vs single-interest customers? Do you see significant overlap in purchasing habits of X product or Y product? What has your constructed and limited events consisted of over the last X quarters / years?" The WPN stores would be a great source as their ability to keep the lights on and eat depends on WotC not fucking them with more Aetherdrift or Spiderman, and give them products people want like Tarkir or (while I hate saying it) FF. WotC might even have some of that data with that app they started using in stores to organize events (Companion?).

I went to see a local store the other week, check if they had any interesting cards come through and shoot the shit with the owner. News of Jaws dropped and was being openly mocked through the whole store of 10 people. This store used to be PACKED Friday nights with 40-50 people playing MTG, and now there's barely a draft while some randoms try out Star Wars cards / Lorcana / or some Marvel figurine game.

You're absolutely right, but given that magic is all over target, walmart, and best buy nowadays, I wonder if WOTC even cares about WPN stores any more. They probably couldn't care less if the big box stores keep buying up pallets.

They probably don't care as long as the product sells. The difference between big box stores and small stores is that big box stores usually have the option to return unsold product to the vendor for a refund while small stores are stuck with it.

I recently heard some stores talk about what they had to do to become WPN Premium and it was hilarious.
