They probably don't care as long as the product sells. The difference between big box stores and small stores is that big box stores usually have the option to return unsold product to the vendor for a refund while small stores are stuck with it.
Ironically though, since big box charge MSRP while stores are spiking prices, it seems like the big box stores are in no danger of having overstock any time soon.

I recently heard some stores talk about what they had to do to become WPN Premium and it was hilarious.
Wait, there is another level to WPN? All the stuff I had been looking into, I had not come across that. Do tell if you're able.

spice8faggot released an actually decent piece on why through the omenpaths suck. it could be a very decent piece of general discussion if he wouldn't toss random politics into the video with his "bash the fash" and hate capitalism approach while begging for more patreons. and by the end he mentions an upcoming 3 hour video talking about revolution while begging people to "organize into self-defense communities against fascism" that I am 100% sure got delayed because things are not looking good for his side after Charlie Kirk's assassionation

I've been seeing that video in my recommends and wondered about clicking it.

Thanks for letting me know as I consider sincere communists to be as palatable as sincere neo-nazis. And it saddens me again to see what could be a decent talent get infected with the marxian brain rot that's going to spoil his work.

My old LGS was going through that process. IIRC they had a bunch of stuff you'd expect like having WOTC and Hasbro products prominently displayed (I think they had to have a certain % of their total space dedicated to them too), but they also had stuff like snap inspections on your cleanliness and also stuff like the appropriate amount of gender neutral bathroom space. It sounded like a real pain in the butt but they did get some pretty cool perks like a giant Chandra statue.

Is THAT where the giant chandra is from?? I've seen like... 1 store in our area with one.

That slop post making the rounds the magic twitter is pretty funny. Its amazing how fucking mad commander players get and UB enjoyers(fucking normies), and this is someone from the outside looking in.

As somebody who is seeing this post for the first time, my first reaction was that this was made regarding mass immigration and not fucking Magic: the Gathering

I don't get their strategy when it comes to picking UB franchises. It's not like there's a shortage of fantasy settings they could pick from which would have meshed better with the existing pre-UB identity of MtG. I don't see any point in doing shit like Star Trek when they could have done something like Dark Souls or Elden Ring which wouldn't look out of place in an universe that is primarily fantasy. These IPs would still generate shitload of sales without the risk of diluting the brand even further.
At least I can enjoy the schadenfreude of WotC definitively panicking after the Spiderman set has bombed because if they can't get satisfying numbers with a set like that they sure won't get it with another Marvel set or Star Trek. The Hobbit will probably sell well just like LoTR did, though I doubt I'm going to enjoy a set with an another shitty raceswap, I am sure they won't be able to resist fucking something up.
Probably a mix of reasons. Some of it is probably San-Fran mixing, since they are all in one place with those companies. There's also the idea that many of the fantasy options would be competitors with D&D, so its not like they could do a Pathfinder crossover. On top of that, I don't think the D&D sets did that well, though Baldur's Gate got self sabotaged between few good reprints and the set coming out before the game. So they just chose the option that made money.

I also don't know how much WotC would be involved. Maybe Hasbro is telling them "you have to make a Wild West and Space set so future crossovers fit better" but I doubt that.

Honestly from the perspective of a commander player. I agree with the analogy we are at a point whete they would rather just bombard you with UB/Secret Lairs/Sets and basically have the consumers on permanent FOMO. They are turning customers into cattle and they just feed them slop in the form of UB/Secret lairs and they are getting accustomed to it. Quality drops while Quantity increases.

Personally i dont buy sets and just stick with singles. As for Secret Lairs, i like them in concept, having thematic pack of cards with unique art that is done occasionally through out the year, instead we got a bombardment of Secret lairs flashing in your space every month which sucks if you happen to be fan of the art or want the cards that come with it.. Seeing the next year line up maybe realize that Wotc has gone full corpo and if this is the future of sets for MtG, then things look dire for the non-cattle.

I think my only annoyance is how slop has seemed to have lost all meaning. Slop doesnt mean "thing I dont like" its a pejorative for things designed for mass market appeal. UB and Commander are slop at their very core. People seem to have a problem with that, but they are already playing the sloppiest card game after all.

Literally 99% of the cards that exist only exist to fill packs for drafting so yes this is the sloppiest card game in existence, but that is the fun of the game making the slop cards work.

Now we dont even get that because every set has uncommon signposts that tell you what to play.

I dont think pack filler is necessarily pack filler. I am more so talking about the ideas and design directions wotc was headed even before UB. Planeswalker were slop almost immediately after they were introduced as a concept.

C'mon you can't say that shit like this isn't just filler for draft.

Or like this that isn't over the top enough for Commander (R/G Omnath does this better) isn't good enough for Constructed (except for the less bloated standards of days past where it would be the best card by a mile) but is great in Limited because it is legendary and you can't have more than one at once so it can be super pushed. I wish sets were much less curated, like Spiderman limited is really ass just because only certain pairings have anything crossing over so you are just kind of forced into lanes. Which is why despite being Universes Beyond "Slop" Final Fantasy is a top tier Drafting format, even if you do have certain archetypes that were a little bit pushed (Sorry Omega weapon shouldn't be an Uncommon) but you could make most color pairings or trios work well enough to pull out a 2-1.

You can bitch about Universes Beyond all you want, but Final Fantasy was the best set since (Return to) Dominaria and Ravnica 3.

Edit : So Random question.

Is anyone starting to get fatigue about Double Faced Cards? like them bringing back the Aurora bullshit (caaaalllllleeeddd iiiittt) in Llorywn just to have double faced shit seems like a stretch. Also don't think about how a civilization gets built when there is a massive magical shift in personalities every 70 or so years at most (if Nissa's Sparking happened EXACTLY at the mending that would put the last known Aurora at just over 60 years ago at best..)

I'm OK with them because they keep making changes to make them fit better in the game mechanically and not some weird bullshit special case all the time.
