A huge number of stores get the BaB promos, then sell them as singles instead of giving them out with the boxes.

That said, they literally fixed this with Ultimate Masters - just put the promo in the sealed product. My guess is that doing this added a few shekels onto the cost of putting a box together, so they nixed it.

I would generally say it is just largely not worth it, most of the buy a box promos are worth under a dollar.
It looks like penny-pinching on their side. They've already made packs cost more and boxes contain less packs. And then they come again and do this petty shit.
What I find extremly funny, just two days prior to that the main resident shill of mtg reddit wrote up this wall of text about positivity and some shit

just for Wizards to come out and dub on it.

It is, but if you look at how valuable the buy a box promos are it's pretty much zero anyway so it's not a world ending deal.

MH3 had a nice Flusterstorm promo but that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head that was worth anything.

"HonorBasquiat" lmao even. Basquiat was a degenerate nigger with a ridiculous hairdo (but I repeat myself) who spent his time schmoozing, tagging buildings, and doing heroin 'til he fucking died. Most of his art is just childscribble niggers with crowns over their head in a proto-We Wuz Kangz revelry. To name himself after such a character implies that this guy probably talks like a fag and his shit is definitely all retarded.

Nexus of Fate being a standard-defining card was also one, but since that instance yeah they haven't really been worth caring about

I'm liking this limited format more and more the more I play it. Very small, minor misplays when piloting a control deck can have aggro roll all over you, so it feels very 'classic core-set' with a little twist from how strong certain bombs are. A bit painful to open United Front pack3 while a million miles from white.

What's funny is that all their talk about being "pro-commander" is the buy-a-box promos were almost perfect for those. Make something jank that would only be decent for commander, and it's fine getting just 1 with a box because it's a singleton format, etc etc.

It's mostly just sad to see a retailer and player incentive go away like that.

I'll always have a soft spot for Firesong and Sunspeaker.

And then Nexus of Fate happened lol.

I still don't know why that didn't exile upon resolving.
Why the fuck is it instant?
Why does it shuffle back in

Who was this card for? 7 Mana would be unplayable except just for wilderness reclamation

Its not playable in pioneer and back, and people despise extra turns in commander so its not for that.

Pretty sure it was an experiment to make extra turns playable in standard. Shuffle back into library is about the most disruptive thing to keep it from being chain cast short of exile and instant makes it slightly more playable in control shells even without wilderness rec. Their next experiment was Alrund's Epiphany which is also 7 mana, got banned in standard, and has seen absolutely no play in any other format.

And I've said it before and I'll say it again, Izzet Dragons/Turns was a mid deck in a terrible standard and would have been completely nonviable as soon as Shelly was printed but there was a real lack of any powerful cards outside of izzet because WotC overreacted and clenched their ass too hard after the initial FIRE era and Kald standard was mostly terrible cards because of that.

Buy a box promos were a cute thing, but to someone like me them vanishing literally means nothing because I don’t buy boxes.
I do think however it shows how penny pinching wotc is and it just makes me hate them even more. The cost to include a BOBP is practically nothing, and, if it works as intended, might even work to get more boxes sold to consumers.
Although I guess if they removed the promo, it didn’t do enough to increase sales anyways, so shrug. Who cares, wotc will be wotc

Welcome to every standard banning since Origins.

Except maybe Steel Cutter.
Not that pioneer is a real and serious format but there was that time when Pioneer's top deck was pretty much just standard Rakdos Midrange with shocks, thoughtseize and fatal push added. Or Pioneer Cat Oven which is occasionally a real deck and just where the standard cat oven deck ended up after bans.

I just built a deck around them, it isn't an optimal burn deck like everyone expects it to be but I thought throwing in some normal monotaurs and using some mechanics nobody cares about like cowards with Moraug and Gornog and some other Mino Warriors alongside the shock/lifegain boros stuff in general for a themed deck, was pretty fun.

Started playing Arena because of the Avatar set. Boy is it demoralizing to spend over a week grinding gold coins(750g quest +400ish for daily wins if I'm lucky) to then just get utterly demolished in draft. Blew 20k this way. And I can't even tell with absolute certainty if it's truly my fault since obviously it's in WotC's best interest to not have you F2P plebs win too much, it's not like you're actually playing against the people you drafted with either since you can queue at any time. Can't even imagine playing with actual paid currency.
Suddenly dawned on me that it feels like I'm playing a fucking gacha and I yeeted it from my PC.

I would live with it better if half the time it weren't "Mull to oblivion because the game gives you 3 hands in a row with no lands" or "You draw nothing but lands after the game starts"

Which again, part of the game sure however Drafting is so expensive...and the quick drafts are randomized week to week so Not only do I have to grind gold by playing shitty formats, the reward for doing so is to instantly lose a game because I see zero lands in 3 mulligans despite having 17 lands.

Edit : Oh hey guess what? now that Vivi is gone the shitty Bounce decks (NOW THERE ARE MORE THAN ONE!) is back on top.

How did banning the broken card make standard fucking WORSE TO PLAY, at least the Vivi deck instantly folded the Leyline of the void.

Well sir, that is your fault for not using a companion app that will mathematically tell you the best cards to pick, that's how Arena drafts are won these days.
