Cube, duh. The best shit. I have 2 cubes and they fill all my mtg cravings

Legacy and vintage are only expensive on paper BTW wink wink
I'm sure Cube can be great, but as of now I normally hear more about brewing cubes than people playing cubes. Then when people do play cube, its always that Power 9 high power cube every time. Though to be fair, I'm biased because I have overdosed on drafting.
Pauper, also apparently Value Vintage
Pauper I think got screwed over by Modern Horizons. Value Vintage is neat, but probably has the same issues as trying to do Penny Dreadful in paper. Value Vintage is still probably the best option IMO.

As fake and gay as WOTC is I fucking hate all the unofficial clients.
Why my nigger?

Every cube of mine is powered but i agree with you. Its always basic shit, a lot of the same cards over and over. I tried to make mine a little off the beaten path.

Power 9 is only as broken as the environment. Its not THAT broken if you stick to old sets

The best version of magic is playing with cardboard in my hand and possibly smelly people across from me who I probably don't like much, Triggers and stuff can be missed but that is fine.

The second best way of playing magic is to play on MTGO where its not as good as having cardboard in your hands but I still have to tap my stuff manually, but the Triggers and all that happen automatically and I can kind of learn edge case interactions. It also has all the formats and I can que up for something competitive without hassle

The second worst way to play magic is arena where you are incentivized to not tap your mana manually, and it has a bunch of missing formats..but you still get to see edge case interactions and I can also que up for things without much hassle

The Worst way to play magic is on clients like Cocktarice, where I have to do everything manually, can miss triggers and can miss edge case interactions..and I also have to go into some random discord full of people I probably don't like much except I don't get to enjoy the feel of magic cards in my hand. It is just kind of all the things I dislike about magic all rolled into one.

Playing Magic in person is the only way I will play at this point, how are you going to shit talk some nerd so bad they misplay on the Internet?

Thousands of years ago, before Sigourney Weaver...I played on Apprentice and even then I hated it but I wanted to test my Standard brews.

Yeah jumpstart seems fun. Def gonna do a jumpstart cube
I mean you could probably cube them if you want, but small "re packs" are so plentiful now I just stick the jumpstart pod into a bunch of those and let people select them. (I at least make it clear by color with a few select ones that are totally blind to encourage diversity)

The draft format -looks- fun, but fuck me this art is abhorrently bland. I can't believe they had the original blocks to source inspiration from, and this is the direction they went with. I can't even get through draft preview reviews because it just looks so bad, Goblins especially. Poor art director throwing a fit that no-one ever wants to go back to Capenna, so I guess we'll just bring the furry-baiting trash to everywhere else out of spite.

I almost wonder if by refusing to increase their commission price and the diminished 'esteem' of working with the Fortnite of Fantasy has meant they plainly can't attract the same talent they used to. Paired with an obviously-incompetent art director who is pretty clearly told not to influence the work of certain artists, like RKF, it makes for just such an ugly visual palate.

Is that your assumption or was that stated/implied somewhere?

It's my assumption, because it's the only possibly way I can understand this Goblin redesign:

Like, I'm getting flashbacks to the Nostalgia Critic's "The Wall" review from this redesign.

I think they've got like four art directors at this point and all of them seem like passionless corporate careerists that have simply climbed or been placed in the position. It's so bad I was looking at my bulk from circa ORI-WAR and I'm longing for those days because at least Cynthia Sheppard, an actual talent, occasionally led a set. I also want the guy at WotC with a fetish for vintage movie posters shot because I'm so tired of that treatment in the bonus sheets.

I recently built an old border cube and the art is so shockingly awesome when you do a deep dive...its tragic what its become

Even modern border sets up to m15 have good art.

Now all the art looks so similar i have to constantly read the new cards to see what they do

In way old sets, I rarely have to read cards because the art is unique and it sticks out and your brain can make the mental association after just one or two instances if seeing it

Until putting together that cube, I had never seen Pale Bears in my life. But I know just seeing the art what it is

I mean also....come on
