This could be very bad for WOTC

Are they trying to be like Naughty Dog?
Not Surprising. WOTC hasn't ever handled competitive magic very well, and has completely turned the competitive scene into an absolute trash fire in the past few years. Reid Duke and LSV getting left out of the MPL (LSV in particular, they literally drew the line in the exact spot to screw him out of it.)

They have "revamped" the Pro Tour multiple times, outright deleted the history off their website..have NEVER paid the pros any reasonable amount of money unless they absolutely won. That is why players like CalebD don't even touch the "Pro" Scene. He makes several times the amount sitting in his office streaming than he ever did as a "high level" player.

There having even been "rumors" that Channel Fireball is going to be ending their tournament organization, meaning no more GP's unless they go with a new company. Granted said rumors were from a Discord I've never seen scene shots of, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were true. As annoying as SCG commentators are they've got a much more fun tournament scene with better side events.

I wouldn't doubt it.

CFB has been..doing some really steep sales to get cash flow while everything is closed.

Also this shirt, just this fucking shirt.

As someone who hates how generic and dull the art on Magic cards has become, I have no problem with WotC adding more varied art styles in the regular sets. But constantly shoving unique art into premium or collector's sets is just bullshit.
Oh I hate the dull art, but come on. That shit is just fucking ugly.

I will agree that its uninspired, but I started playing way back when art like this was the norm:

I like these guys a lot more than Clarissa, Who Knows It All, whose art is just a tracing of a photo of a smirking black woman who works in WotC's marketing department.

Now they are just Tracing the Intern's tramp stamp after Maro fucks her before the morning meeting.

"I'm pulling out my penis, and you know what that means...."

In other, less disturbing news, Magic is no longer For You. People are upset about Double Masters price point, and Maro has basically said that this is for people who have lots of money. There's also no fetchlands in them, so people are again upset.

If fetchlands were in a normal priced or $5 a pack boosters I wouldn't have a problem, but I'm sure they won't be when they are reprinted.

Has anybody here been following what's been going on with LSV and that scam he's advertising? Seems to be a total fucking scam and coming from a well established scumbag who likes to hide behind virtue signaling, this should just about be the last nail in the CFB coffin. Good riddance to bad rubbish I say.

You're going to have to be more specific.

Here's the instigating incident: https://www.channelfireball.com/all...-year-old-packs-legends-antiquities-and-more/
And here's the reddit thread going into more detail about the shadiness of this whole thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/guy997/mythic_markets_is_even_worse_than_you_think/
tl;dr it's basically a ponzi scheme for magic cards where you buy shares of individual cards with no guarantees that you'll ever get anything in return. The whole thing is super shady especially since LSV is a shareholder in the company (something he failed to disclose in the initial video, by accident I'm sure) and it's basically known at this point that CFB is circling the drain and on the way out.

Its not so much a ponzi scheme as some dweeb who wants to crowdfund his attempt to LARP as Rudy from Alpha Investments. Selling fractional interests in high value collectibles is not a bad idea, but there needs to be an articulated strategy to the investment decisions and not just "buy cool shit for me and maybe I'll sell it in a few years."

I don't get why people here are complaining about a few broken cards. Magic the Gathering is no where near as bad as Yugioh has gotten in terms of being a broken mess. Magic hasn't seen 1st turn wins in years but it's common place in Japanese CCG/TCG's.

And the samey card art? That's been an issue for years due to the company wanting to unify the art style. While that works better for tabletop RPG's (just look at Pathfinder and the few artists they had) I find it doesn't work all that well for card games, at least not when you have different factions each one different from another. Even MtG artists think the art style has gotten too samey as well. While some blame the fact people started to use digital art instead of traditional styles, you can still do different types of art styles in digital media. Paintstorm Studio for instance can do watercolour really well.
or oil paint

I will give Wizards credit for the Companion rule change. It should stop games from feeling the same and make the mechanic somewhat less cancerous. I still think Yorion will be everywhere.
Yorion for 8 mana is bad.

What Faggotry are you talking about? Modern Neo-brand can win turn 1 (God Tier hands admittedly but with the new Mulligan rule it isn't hard to win by turn 2) and Legacy just had a card get banned because there was a deck that could aggressively mulligan and win on turn 1.

Edit : Oh and there was Hogaak that could win on turn 1 in modern.

What was the Hogaak win?

I have heard of the legacy deck that can win on turn 0.

Another successful banning wave in the books! Halfway through 2020 and we already had 2 cards banned in multiple formats and 10 cards nerfed significantly by having the entire rules around a mechanic changed which I don't think has ever happened. I mean, I didn't like Companion either, but whoever is in charge of development is fucking up big time. Thankfully, I only really play on Arena now, so all it takes is wildcards to get what I want, not money. Well, technically not money.
