So, no flex, but moving house I came across some of my old Magic collection (haven't played in like 20 years.) Found what I was sure I'd lost—my Black motherfucking Lotus (Unlimited edition, white border.) So from what I've gathered from a quick googling, this could be quite the windfall for me (I bought it i think for around $100-200) Any advice on getting it appraised and possibly selling it?
That will be a big lump of change in your pocket, but you'll likely need to have it accredited in order to get full price for it.

Built a 50 card sealed deck just because there was so much control in my pool for a White/Black "lol good luck playing any creatures" deck.

The black rare that lets you fortell any card in your hand is also great for dropping little surprises on your opponent. Probably too slow for constructed play, though.

No shit? Gotta see a pic of it just so I can say I knew someone with a black lotus!
Sure

What's the best way to get it accredited? Obviously I'd be willing to spend a little cash id that's necessary as it'd pay off.

I'm still leaning on Rudy, but you're going to get dinged for the surface wear, particularly along the edges, so don't expect max value no matter who you end up going through.

Yeah it's not near mint, but is still in pretty good shape.

Doing a quick search I see:

This looks like some info:

I would definitely see if you can find a nearby shop or something you can drive to, dunno how much I'd trust mailing that thing.

Thanks!

USPS insurance caps out at $5000 coverage and FedEx caps out at $2000.
If he goes with Rudy, Rudy'll cover shipping if he accepts the deal, and maybe we'll get a farms related video out of it.

I can't believe how bad the explanation text for Boast is. It makes it sound like you use Boast after the attack phase. Boast is activated after you declare your attackers but before blockers are declared. In other words, it should read something like "When this creature attacks, pay [x] to [y]. This ability can only be used once."

You also can't cast a spell you Foretold on the same turn. Whoops!

Technically as I understand it, you can use boast ANY time after you declare attackers. So if your boast character attacked but you want to hold off on the text for a combo set up, you can wait and activate it on your main phase. You can also activate it right after you opponent declares blockers before your guy goes dead.

At least, that's how I played it during our little home prerelease.

Boast and the Vikings were the worst part of the Viking plane.

I’d go through an auction house like the heritage auction houses if you decide to get it graded. They helped me with my graded duals and power nine. If you try to sell it raw you may be able to sell it faster, but you won’t get as much.

I like PSA, but I’ve heard they’ve been slowing down because of COVID. Last time it took a while to get back a graded misprinted LOB raigeki and some other old YGO cards from 2002-2003 back in 2019. https://www.psacard.com/

The Professor has done a couple of videos recently about how white is the weakest color and he makes very good points.

This might be a stretch, but is it possible considering how woke WOTC has been in recent years that they didn't want to give white many good cards because white is "evil?"

I think it's more autistic color pie shit, where they want white to do things with a different flavor but it's always weaker than other colors. All while Blue gets to do everything cheap and efficiently, and there is no one of authority really paying attention to game health.

It’s just more “muh color pie”, which you might even see them try to adhere to in the timespiral remaster set. It’s just their way of trying to play it safe and the woke white vs black=good vs evil is just more laziness on their behalf. You’re going to see a lot more of them trying to play it safe while pumping out eternal format changing cards since it means they can skirt around reserve list accessibility concerns and make money.

So you're saying Mana Tithe's going to spike in price?

"So to keep people from doing weird stuff with Cascade and Modal Dual Faced Cards, we decided to change the way Cascade worked."

Meanwhile, in standard! People are getting Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor out on TURN FUCKING TWO!

I get the bannings and shit, but they're not fixing the game. They're the little dutch boy sticking his finger in the dike hoping the water will stop.

From Thrones of Eldraine all the way through NOW there has been some card that broke every single format.

ELD: Oko.

TBD: Uro

IKO: The entire companion mechanic, but we'll focus on Lurrus because it was the only card out right banned in Vintage/Legacy. Also the first mechanic completely errata'd to be completely different from what it was originally printed on the cards.

ZNR: Four Color Omnath

KLD: Tibalt's Trickery

FIRE is burning down the game itself!

WotC, with every booster box, may as well be giving out a great big bag of crack while they're at it, because there's no way you can walk this back.

There's no speed bump. THere's no way to Mercadia Masques or Kamigawa your way to a proper power level.

Power Creep?

No, POWER SPRINT!

That’s always a sign that a TCG is about to completely and utterly go beyond shitting the bed. It’s one thing for a set to come out and change the format, that’s totally fine, but it’s another to have something that breaks the format and there’s no more blocks so they can keep churning out more and more sets with this problem. The fact that they’d have to go back and /ban/ a card from vintage should say something. It’s one thing to let cards occasionally slip out that change up eternal, but this is ridiculous.

Another thing that bugs me, which is something that I noticed when looking at the commander 2020 cards on scryfall is that so many of the cards weren’t just with less than $1, but worth less than 25 cents. Not just the reprints, but the new cards. They seem to be putting more focus on premium products than they do everything else. They don’t care anymore about the quality of life of the game or getting your money’s worth so long as they can keep making money off of collector’s editions and secret lair drops.

Blocks would not have saved Standard, I think.

They would've kept the pedal to the metal and even if Eldraine had three sets in a traditional block, we would have gotten Companion and Uro in some manner.

Here's the problem... they have to pull back on the throttle. Slow down. But they gotta do it in a manner that isn't...

If you joined during Eldraine to play this game... this is the power level you're used too. Pulling back has to be slow and deliberate, as you ween the noobs off their cracktastic jank.

I'm hoping they start to let off on the gas with Strixhaven, but we'll have to see what happens. The Mystical Archive is an interesting take, but we'll have to see how that'll change anything.

63 chase cards of all rarities and they look amazing and there will be one in each pack (three in collectors).

New players have gotten used to each set impacting the oldest formats in the game when that never was the case. I started around FRF, but I still was around for weaker sets that didn't blow up the game. Ever since Dominaria the sets have seemed to never really ramp down and Hasbro is killing the game by focusing on the short term compared to the long term. The bottom can only hold out for so long, and the only reason that people haven't rioted about the powertrain this last year and the bans that have resulted is thanks to Wuflu killing a lot of paper magic.

The problem is that you're absolutely right. Since Dominaria, we've been on a pain train of power level.

Used to be that a block with power like Urza's Block would be followed by a Mercadian Block to put the brakes to everything.

But really, the problem is... there's no play testing. There can't be.

They can't have people dumb enough to look at Oko and not uses his +2 on everything everyturn. They couldn't have seen how bad Uro would get. Companion was supposed to be fun, quasi commander for Standard, yet it broke every format.

You'd think they had learned their lesson for Tibalt's Trickery. What with the whole milling a random number, but it's solved in three words.

"you don't control" that's it, Trickery is fixed! BUT THEY DIDN'T DO THAT!

And changing the way Cascade works... doesn't fix a god damn thing!
