I'm really surprised nobody has made a thread about this yet. I fucking love Magic. I started playing around 20 years ago on my friend's porch. We used really fucked up house rules (play as many lands as you want per turn, when you run out of cards draw 7, probably some other stuff that I forgot) because we were in elementary school. I used to think Nightmare is the most bad ass card ever.

Then, I got high and forgot about Magic.

In college, I started playing again until my roommate drunkenly burned my apartment down and some asshole stole my decks when I was crashing at his house.

Got back into it in June. Dropped damn near $1,000 on booster boxes. Made a kickass standard deck (unless I hit control which... yeah fuck control) and placed in the top fifteen at my store which is kind of impressive considering it's a converted roller rink and has 50+ entrants.

Then I got sent to China to work and I don't know anyone who plays (:_(

Here's my deck. I probably have too many Planeswalkers in it but they've done me well. It was straight up Red/Green, but now I've thrown in some blue when the Khans of Tarkir spoilers came out.

On an interesting sidenote, I have ripped my boss off significantly in two deals. I got a foil thoughtseize off him for half a booster box of Born of the Gods when it was worth $50. A month later it's $80. I got Nissa off him when M15 came out and it's doubled in price since then. LAWLZ. He has ridiculous luck. I've seen him pull out an Elspeth, Ajani, and the aforementioned foil Thoughtseize and Nissa in prerelease/draft tournaments.

Creatures:
Stormbreath Dragon x4
Elvish Mystic x4
Polukranos, World Eater x4
Sylvan Caryatid x4
Prophet of Kruphix x2
Soul of Shandalar x1
Courser of Kruphix x4

Spells
Sorceries
Thoughtseize x2

Instants:
Searing Blood x4
Plummet x2

Planeswalkers:
Nissa x2 (she will probably get sideboarded or put in a modern deck when the new expansion comes out)
Kiora x2
Xenagos x3

Lands (keep in mind this is kinda skewed because I'm gonna add hella blue to this deck once I get familiar with Khans):
Forest x4
Mountains x4
Temple of Mystery x2
Temple of Deceit x1
Yavimaya Coast x3
Temple of Abandon x4
Temple of Malice x1
Shivan Reef x3

Sideboard:
Garruk, Apex Predator x1
Siege Dragon x1
Life's Legacy x2
Arbor Collossus x3
Plummet x2
Mistcutter Hydra x1
Soul of Zendikar x1
Chain Veil x1
Swan Song x1
Fated Conflagilation x1
Eidolon of the Great Revel x2

I would love to hear feedback on this from the more autistic folks out here who know the math well. Post your decks too and we can have a deck measuring contest

If anyone wants to play a Standard game or twelve over Skype, you should PM me.

I play a lot of Magic, don't really have a lot of money to invest in it but I mostly just play with friends anyways.

Your deck looks very slow. All those temples come into play tapped which in your deck (which is high mana curve to begin with) seems like suicide.

The Elvish Mystics help with the mana acceleration but I don't really see the common theme of your deck. Sorry if I seem like I'm shit talking you, it just seems like you took your cool stuff and mishmashed it together.

You're absolutely right. It started out Jund Monsters, but I've fucked with it a lot since I learned about Khans. I'm going to replace most of those scrylands w/ fetchlands/basic lands when it comes out. A lot of it is just stuff I pulled out of booster packs and I'm looking to add more to it. It's a work in progress, which is why I'm asking for recommendations instead of just telling me my deck sucks.

Poulkanros is a legendary, meaning you can only have one copy on the field at a time. Ditto for the planeswalkers. In a game this means you're more than likely to be sitting with a bunch of stuff you can't cast from your hand if your opponent doesn't feel like using removal on what you already have out.

The new (since I last played on a regular basis) legends rule says that when there's two legends of the same card on the battlefield, you choose one to go to the graveyard. If you're familiar with Polky, his ability makes him monstrous to do damage to other creatures. If I have another one in my hand, I just put the fresh one on the battlefield and the old one to the graveyard so I can use his ability again. I don't have a whole lot of removal other than him and searing blood.

Ha, MtG! My partner used to play competitively and made pretty good money at it, but he quit a while back because he couldn't stand the company of other magic players. There are literally hundreds of thousands of disused cards crapping up my house right now - all the shit he won and won't sell because it's sentimental.

Does anyone else remember the late 90s when ESPN2 was covering magic and they actually had to clean Zvi Mowshowitz before they'd show him on television? Like, they brought in a stylist to wash his hair and trim his filthy fingernails? Man, good times.

...I guess if that's how you want to go? It's wasteful to toss a 5/5 for another 5/5 with a very low end removal option stapled on it, especially since your opponent could just bounce it. Since you have Prophet or Kruphix, high end hydras could be your ticket to success. Mistcutter is great and I see you have one on sideboard, Kalonian Hydra is a veritable powerhouse of asskickery that isn't legendary. If you can field two of those or just one with a creature that benefits tokens, it's GG unless your opponent can remove it in a turn.

Funny story: "I have a complete set of unlimited... is that worth anything?" - One of my coworkers when I mentioned I was starting to play again. I should have told him I'd give him $1,000 for it.

I kind of want to get away from a monsters deck because I'm getting slaughtered by control and that Elspeth fucker

Here's what I want to add from Khans

Surrak Dragonclaw
Trap Essence
Rattleclaw Mystic
Feed the Clan (sideboard)
Icy Blast
Stubborn Denial
Meandering Towershell (sideboard)
Mindswipe (combos well with Prophet)
bivouac
fetchlands

cut:
thoughtseize
plummet
nissa
soul of shandalar
buncha shit from the sideboard

See the unwritten is tempting, but expensive.

Thoughtseize is probably one of the best reprints in recent times and everyone has been jizzing themselves over it but yeah it probably doesn't belong in your deck.

If you're getting away from creatures, I'd advocate blue\red, they've made burn decks a very viable avenue recently. Maybe blue/green, with the emphasis on blue and green for a mana engine. Tri color decks are somewhat hard to build...they're usually very specialized around a certain thing.

Elspeth is a bit of a bitch, I know because I run her in my red/white weenie doublestrike deck.

Been playing off and on since I was about 14, I mainly play non-standard but I did make one standard deck after I got a booster box of 2015 edition. I might post my decks when I'm not typing with an iPad.

Got into it this past year, boyfriends been playing forever.
I play green/black, haven't started a second deck yet.

I used to play a lot of MtG a few years ago. I even played in official standard format for a while durring Scars of Mirrodin and the Innistrad blocks. My favorite kinds of decks to play have been blue control/artifacts, Blue/White (I ran a deck with four Geists of Saint Trafts durring Innistrad), a white weenie Innistrad deck and I had a really nice black deck for EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander, for those who don't know).

One of my most favorite decks I made for casual games with my friends was a blue/artifact deck that featured a set of "Lighthouse Chronologist" cards which, when you leveled them up, gave you extra turns. That deck also had an infinite "Mindslaver" combo so I would end up literally controlling the whole game and making my friends rage-quit.

I stopped playing a few years ago and sold a lot of my most valuable cards, but It was still a fun experience.

Found a MTG store here in Shanghai that sold English packs, so I obviously sperged and bought a box and had one hell of a haul.

I run an Eldrazi deck. People thought I was running a Selesnya deck until I dropped a PathRazer of Ulamog and Artisan of Kozilek.

I played quite a while ago. Every once in a while I'll borrow a friend's deck and play - it's still fun, even if they have to explain the new mechanics. I should make one from my old cards...
