Malcolm in the Middle - Why nobody is speaking about it?

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I like it because it's effectively impossible to remake and was also a show that was appealing to both adults and teenagers (and even kids). The only other shit was either cartoons or nickelodeon-tier literal kids shit and also stuff like Home Improvement which was nowhere near as good and hasn't stood the test of time whatsoever.

I can't think of another show that had the same appeal, quality and longevity as MITM. I still see screenshots and clips of it posted quite regularly online.

I've never been able to watch this show.

Every time I try it I get 3 episodes in and get driven off by the fact the Mother is a Harpy, The Dad is borderline Retarded, The Youngest feels destined for Grossout Humor and Malcom feels like he is on the Path of Lisa Simpson were he starts out as a decent "smart sane person among insane people" but will eventually descend into being "Oh So Holier than the rest of the cast"
The benefit that MITM has over the simpsons is that it didn't go on for 30+ years so the characters weren't (quite) as Flanderized
iirc don't the legends say Dewey was massively raped even beyond what you'd expect a child actor like him?
He has refuted these rumors and it is speculated that they are regarding another family sitcom from that era

The Middle is pretty good too. It doesn't quite have the magic of Malcom in the middle but it's close.

There's an anonymous Reddit post that people seem to be attributed to him because there are some similarities because it mentions on-screen "brothers". The thing is there are some 100% disqualifiers because the post also says the show isn't on reruns. It's vague enough that it looks like people are sure it's him for some reason.

The post mentions sexual abuse as well as paying for a family members rehab and being totally broke financially.

What I read of the actual reason seems legit: he started that shit when he was like 7 and worked a bunch until he became an adult and was like "nah, I'm good". Quite a few people nope out of that world and the whole secret sexual abuse shit isn't as widespread as people would have you think.

It makes sense, plenty of child actors get bored with it, especially if they're on a show for years.

You don't really get those "I want this to be my life forever" style kids, especially if they're forced to be on sitcoms unless they are 14+ when they're hired. Kennan Thompson has been working on sets since he was 15.

None of the other kids really made anything else after the show ended either. In the 20 (sorry) years since the show ended you can count on on hand the amount of shit Malcolm has been in and it's mostly one episode guest roles playing himself.

One of my all time favourite shows. It was disturbingly like my own family.

They make fun of Hal because he's lower middle class. That joke was well played.
I loved that scene. It was so perfectly done, with that twist.

It took me the longest time to actually be able to take Breaking Bad seriously because of him. It was extremely hard to disassociate him with the goofy Malcolm in the Middle dad.
I remembered Bryan Cranston from a particularly excellent episode of The X Files, so I knew he'd be great in BB.

I always felt he never got the recognition he deserved for his work on MiTM, though. He was absolutely brilliant as Hal.

The one where the grandma won't go away so they scare her away with hal's black friends is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a sitcom to this day.
That's another classic scene. Also, where she says to Francis, "You couldn't even get a White woman to marry you!"

I like that even though it was technically a kids show he brought his absolute A game and nothing less.

A Chilean acquaintance told me once that MitM has a Latino following because the dysfunctional family life doesn't feel out of place down there, and they know how to laugh at themselves. Not that I don't believe her, I just want further confirmation.

It sounds racist but yeah, every Latino family I know of is like Malcolm in the middle except if you included the episode where Lois imagines them as girls and combined those 4 girls with the 4 boys

As the episode showed. The boys aren't that bad. Once they mature they stop acting like assholes while the girls never mature.

Was rewatching xfiles with some nerd buddies, and it was neat to see Breaking Bad start to develop in the later seasons
