WESTON, W.Va. (WDTV/Gray News) - An 84-year-old man was critically injured after falling from a cross during a crucifixion reenactment in West Virginia on Good Friday.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. at the Masonic Cemetery in Weston.
The man was participating in the reenactment with the Vandalia Community Christian Church when he fell about 10 feet from one of the crosses. He was later flown to an emergency facility.
The man was not a member of that specific church but was simply assisting at the event, according to those who are familiar with the incident.
A family member of the victim said the man was admitted to the ICU with broken ribs, but he was doing much better since he was first hospitalized.
The family member also said doctors believe his injuries are now non-life-threatening.
At this time, there is no word on what caused the man to fall from the cross.
