HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A man who claims responsibility for peeling out and leaving tire marks on the Huntington Pride crosswalk insists he has no regrets.

A video has gone viral on social media just days after Huntington's Pride Committee and members of the community created an art installation in downtown Huntington.

“I was in the truck. Yeah, I did it,” Patrick Salmons, the man involved who identified himself to Eyewitness News, said. “Yeah, my foot was on the gas and my foot was on the brake, but did I go out of my way to do it? No.”

Eyewitness News asked the man if he regretted his actions.

"I'll stand behind it for as long as I live," he said. "I have no regrets."

Huntington Mayor Steve Williams said he refuses to say the man’s name.

“If somebody is doing something positive in the community, I will stand at the top of the building to scream their name,” Williams said. “If somebody comes in and tries to do things to deface beautiful things in our community, they're not worth it. I'd like to take him over my knee and wear him out.”

Eyewitness News asked what motivated the Salmons to vandalize the crosswalk.

I’ve grown up, old south country family. I was always raised as if that wasn’t right,” he said. “I’m 21 years old. I’ve had to deal with that kind of stuff through school. I’ve never caused any trouble through school but when your bring it to me, a place of business, basically bringing it to your face or stuff like that, it’s upsetting and it’s just wrong.”

The city released this statement Monday afternoon:
Huntington police identified the driver responsible for the June 12th incident at the intersection of Tenth Street and Fourth Avenue. A 21-year-old Huntington man has been cited for section 349.12 of the city code - 'squealing tires.'
City code outlines the offense:
No person shall unnecessarily race the motor of any vehicle and, in such a manner that the vehicle is so rapidly accelerated or started from a stopped position that the exhaust system emits a loud, cracking or chattering noise unusual to its normal operation, or whereby the tires of such vehicle squeal or leave tire marks on the roadway, commonly called ‘peeling.’
City leaders asked if additional charges are pending and sent the following statement to Eyewitness News:
Mayor Williams has said to follow the rule of law. With that said, the process has not been completed. We expect that we will be pleased with the outcome and see that justice is served and that destruction of public property will not be tolerated.

Some troll should burn a bunch of pride flags then dare them to sue them. It’s no different than burning the US flag which is free speech.
And he'd get a bunch of citations for not having a burn permit, littering because a singed piece of the fag flag blew away, vandalism because he made a mess on the street/grass, and maybe a charge of reckless endangerment since fire is bad. Maybe just straight up arrested and demanded to produce proof the fag flags weren't stolen.

On the other hand, the above is more the 2010s version of what would happen, you're probably right that in this day and age they're a lot less afraid to directly attack the 1st Amendment in court.

Last year I called the non-emergency line because a crackhead set a big ass tree on fire. I explained to the operator wtf I was watching and they asked me "are you sure it's not a warming fire?". Mind you this is in the hottest part of the country. God I had this timeline.

Hmmn, post inevitable reaction image, or dig up a picture of the driver?

Yes.

Just goes to show that no matter how much troons & co. love to write fan-fiction in their head about how they are totally on the verge of death everyday from the establishment, they are in actual fact protected and coddled by said establishment more thoroughly than any other group out there. No-one would be getting arrested by the filth if this was a US flag or any other type of symbol. It's the one thing that genuinely grinds my melons about that lot, they *love* to tell anyone who'll listen about how the government is 2 seconds away from holocausting them yet big brother will bend over backwards to make sure they fuck over anyone who hurts the feelings of the creepy cunts. The bacon's top brass and the other degenerates won't keep people in jail for doing literal car-jackings yet if you dare say a naughty word to this lot or put a tiny skidmark on their rainbow symbol you'll get a GTA style 5 star wanted level.

"I'd like to take him over my knee and wear him out.”
Aye I bet he would the massive bender. They really are incapable of going 2 minutes without saying or doing some degenerate shenanigans. Imagine trying to make the guy who did the burnout out to be Hitler or some shit by not saying his name. He's acting like if they were to say his name 3 times he's going to appear like Beetlejuice and start drawing swastikas by doing doughnuts in the car park. :story:

It's still stupid to bald your tires because you don't like the way a crosswalk is painted

Something something microplastics as well
There were several cases before this guy where people got charged with shit the last few years for mildly scuffing these style crosswalks while making too sharp of a turn. If this had been like FIRST time shit about these crosswalks made it into the news then I'd fully chalk it up to "just didn't the way it's painted" thing. This seems partly like the actions similar to what some other people did after getting fed up with seeing "vandalism" people got charged for news stories that have basic road wear and tear and not actual vandalism. It's retarded to fuck up your own tires over this but people are genuinely kind of getting fed up with the way these pride crosswalks have been handled. We're at a point where it's near surveillance state level enforcement and charges for accidentally scuffing the rainbow road.
