A man is in critical condition after setting himself on fire midday Sunday outside the Israeli Embassy in D.C., authorities said.

No one else was injured in the incident, which took place just before 1 p.m. in the 3500 block of International Drive NW. A video shared online, which multiple officials said appeared to be posted by the man, shows him shouting “Free Palestine” as he burned.

The man said he was an active-duty member of the U.S. Air Force. A spokeswoman for the Air Force, Ann Stefanek, said they had not yet identified the man or verified whether he is in the service.

Since the Israel-Gaza war began just over four months ago, at least 29,629 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack and says 240 soldiers have been killed since the start of its military operation in Gaza.

Hamas and allied fighters took more than 253 people hostage during the attack. More than 100 were freed in exchange for more than 200 Palestinian detainees during a November pause in fighting. Israeli authorities believe that more than 100 hostages remain in Gaza.

On Sunday, uniformed Secret Service officers responded to a report of a person experiencing a possible medical or mental health emergency, said Joe Routh, a U.S. Secret Service spokesman.

Responding officers put out the fire before D.C. firefighters arrived, around 1 p.m., fire department spokesman Vito Maggiolo said. The D.C. Fire and Emergency Services department then took the man to a hospital in life-threatening condition. He remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon.

In the video, which is just over three minutes long, one person can be heard saying, “Hi, sir, can I help you?” as the man approaches the gate to the embassy.

About 12 seconds later, as a person again asks, “Can I help you, sir,” the man lights the fire.

The man burned for about a minute and collapsed on the ground, the video showed, before law enforcement began to extinguish the fire.

Self-immolation was done before this famous incident and has been done after but Thích Quảng Đức's act isn't easily matched by imitators for the following reasons:
1. It was during the South Vietnamese Buddhist Crisis and not that many people had died in that particular period to the point where his sacrifice would just be easily buried by constant news of death and destruction, his act stood out.
2. He was a Buddhist monk in a movement mostly lead by other Buddhist monks so he wasn't just a random nobody.
3. Đức sat in a meditative pose, and was said to never move and never spoke while burning which illustrates a powerful resolve and will. Many who wish to follow in his footsteps usually just end up lighting themselves on fire and running around like a person burning usually does, either getting fatally injured or dying in the process.
4. He was surrounded by many witnesses, many of which were people with similar ideas and faith to his own which translated to a great deal of wailing and crying taking place while he burned away. The whole ordeal was an emotional spectacle for all who saw it. Many observers to this event also meant it was easy to document and photograph.
Missing number 5. He was an textbook example of an useful idiot for the communist cause. If he had lit himself protesting against communism, he will looked upon a whole lot more unfavorably by the communist controlled western media.

wouldn't the natl. guard do that?
hopefully this dude wasn't put in charge of people, I desperately gotta know his rank and branch for the sake of my own sanity.
Reportedly he had 3 years of service according to info floating around online, and that uniform definitely looks like USAF OCPs, so it's very unlikely he was an NCO. I'm gonna guess a Senior Airman at the highest.

E-4 mafia going hard lmao.

Everyone who has set themself on fire was trying to copy this guy. But the reason his was so memorable was because I don't think anyone else ever tried that before. It was the shock value that earned him immortality.
One reason the monk's suicide is still looked at in awe today is because he's the only person who has managed to set themselves on fire and not scream out in pain or thrash in agony. He sat still and serene the entire time he burned to death. Everyone else who has tried this always ends up regretting it almost immediately. They start screaming bloody murder and freaking out as onlookers try to put out the flames.

Have you ever met a genuine burn victim? One with near 100% burns? I knew one for many years.

It is a pity they didn’t let him burn another 30 seconds and let him die. There isn’t a chance in hell I’d want to survive and he will regret it every day for the rest of his life.

The depiction in the movies is frankly, kind, compared to what they really look like.

Why would you do this? lol

Israel is basically in a really bad position. People on both the right and left are getting tired of the Kikes and Israel. The Republicans are holding back funding for Israel. The fucking Republicans. Support for Jew Narnia is collapsing across the political spectrum. Only the most retarded Boomer Neocons still support Jewlandia. lol
It's really only getting held up because the retards insisted on tying it with aid to the glowies idiotic proxy war in Ukraine. If it was it's own separate bill (remember when we did those?) it would've sailed through by now.

There are plenty of ways one could use a can of gas at a zionist rathole, this isn't the best one.
Came here just to say this. So many better ways to go up in flames fighting the kike occupiers.
Are they wrong though?
Zionism's responsibility varies widely on who you believe.

But Marxism murdered so many that measuring the dead requires ESTIMATES in the hundreds of millions range.

I don't understand why people attempt this, it requires a mastery of meditation that takes decades of 24/7 study in order to achieve a form of death that's regarded with dignity. Some random guy isn't able to live up to the original self immolator because they don't know how to control themselves in the same way.

I don't get it either. You'd think if people that try this had done even the barest of wikipedia research, they would have learned that this was no random guy, he was a freaking MONK that had decades of meditation experience. Plus he had support, he didn't go out and randomly surprise people with this, he and his other monk buddies planned this out together. I imagine that, in addition to knowing advanced meditation, knowing that you were chosen for an important job and that people are counting on you to complete it also gives you even more motivation to tough it out.

You know what Biden doesn't want? Any of this Israel/Palestine bullshit persisting through the election year. Even if it ends before November there could be a spergout at the convention in Chicago, August 19-22.
If only the Republicans were not controlled opposition.

They could have used subversive means to promote this issue more, to hurt the Democrats.
