Man with weapon detained near Brett Kavanaugh’s home

A California man carrying at least one weapon near Brett M. Kavanaugh’s Maryland home has been taken into custody by police after telling officers he wanted to kill the Supreme Court justice, according to people familiar with the investigation.

The man, described as being in his mid-20s, was found to be carrying at least one weapon and burglary tools, these people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation. Police were apparently notified that the person might pose a threat to the justice, but it was not immediately clear who provided the initial tip, these people said. The man apparently did not make it onto Kavanaugh’s property in Montgomery County but was stopped on a nearby street, these people said.

Two people familiar with the investigation said the initial evidence indicates that the man was angry about the leaked draft of an opinion by the Supreme Court signaling that the court is preparing to overturn Roe. v. Wade, the 49-year-old decision that guaranteed the constitutional right to have an abortion. He was also angry over a recent spate of mass shootings, these people said.

The man was arrested at about 1:50 a.m. today, Supreme Court spokeswoman Patricia McCabe said in a statement.

“The man was armed and made threats against Justice Kavanaugh,” McCabe said. “He was transported to Montgomery County Police 2nd District.”

DC doesn’t have an airport. Two of the three airports in the metro area are in Virginia (DCA and IAD), and the other one is in Maryland (BWI).

Not true, DC has plenty of ghettos. A rule of thumb I was told is to never go east of the Capitol. The river separates DC from the high crime areas of Maryland.
You are being really pedantic if you don't consider DCA to be DC's airport.

The entire political basis of the right is "I should be allowed to tell other people what to do" and "other people should not be allowed to tell me what to do", what counts as dirty for that standard?
In what smack hallucination is this even remotely true?

For decades, the "Right"'s ethos has been, "I need to whiteknight for people who hate my guts and want me dead, and fuck over my constituents! What? Play for keeps? But I will lose my respectability!"

"God damn it we told you not to get caught." - The FBI.
Getting caught was part of his plan. Buy a gun (legally, I think), walk past the Justice's house so the Marshals can see him, then call 911 and say, "I'm having a mental crisis, I wanted to kill a Supreme Court Justice and I'm feeling suicidal too." He catches a state possession charge but he never threatened anyone, never discharged or even pointed the gun, and in fact walked away and asked for help. He'll get a very light sentence and 15 minutes of fame.

All of this supports one of their main lines of attack: the average person is apt to go crazy with no notice and go on a killing spree. Therefore, we need psychological evaluations to weed out the crazies, and we need waiting periods so crazy people who do get guns will come to their senses like this guy miraculously did just as soon as he got to Kavanaugh's house.

It’s not physically in DC, so DC’s gun laws don’t apply.
I never said anything about gun laws, I said almost all airlines refuse to let you check guns if you're going to airports controlled by DC's Airport authority, which controls both Dulles and Reagan.

I have deleted that extended slapfight between @Badungus Kabungus and @Hollywood Hulk Hogan.

Going forward, if you deliberately ping a user you dislike into the thread with the intent of getting into an internet fight, you will be taking a break from the thread for a little bit. It derails the thread and impedes the discussion by users who are actually interested in the topic at hand.
If you want to fight, take it to DMs. If someone horribly irritates you, I suggest utilizing the ignore feature.
You're already better than the last guy. Thanks!

Can you provide an example from this in my lifetime (1993) where the "right" actually succeeded in doing this?

If you want to be reductive, that's literally every political belief system ever.
Except Lolbertarians whose entire system is "I JUST WANT TO BE LEFT ALONE? WHY ARE ALL OF OUR PRESIDENTAL CANDIDATES RETARDS?"

Welp its a conspiracy to take your guns. You heard it here first folks. Mind commenting on the moon landing or the how 5g spreads covid?

So now they're threatening the school where the Kavanaugh kids go.

These fuckknobs published the justices' addresses, and have been firebombing and vandalizing the offices of pro-life organizations. Now they're openly UwUing.

Fuck it, go Handmaid's Tale. No skin off my ass.

It should be legal to redact the facial features of anyone who uses that emoji in a public venue.

Self-defense.

He showed up directly in front of the justice's house with a briefcase with a gun and ammo inside and proceeded to call the cops on himself? I know it's a cliche, but this glows.

I've been doing my usual Larry David's Opera Cape thing with this guy and his entire fucking family has as of right now, 730 pm Mar-A-Lago time, been completely wiped off the face of the internet, with scant exceptions. Usually there's plenty of traces left, especially this soon and especially if no one is directly harassing them. But this guy, like the Las Vegas guy, all the family is wiped instantly. Sure sure they might all be luddites and just had no web presence- right.

It was even disappearing by the time this Heavy.com article was published and those vultures are fast.

In my experience that's a fed footprint.

For what it's worth though, the guy himself's Facebook has been restored (prob temporarily so grab what you want to archive while you can) and has just insanely funny photos.
