i wouldn't think so, if her age was clearly listed as below 18 then yaniv should have blocked and ignored the messages. it's one thing if she's pretending to be an adult and tells yaniv she's over 18, but she was clearly pretending to be a young teen. he'd have an excuse if he were to say he believed he was sending explicit messages to another consenting adult. it would probably only count as entrapment if yaniv wouldn't have been in legal trouble if these chats were legitimate. maybe i'm wrong.
still, no idea how he fell for this.

I don't know how Canada does these things, but it's still illegal to hit on an under 18 you know is under 18. And it's not like he has to be entrapped. He's openly engaged in pedophile behavior.

It's also a crime knowingly to provide pornographic materials to children. I assume it is in Canada, too, although I don't know for sure.

If she actually wasn't over 18, though, it probably doesn't matter. Solicitation is a crime, and so is attempted solicitation, but without someone better than an Internet troll as the witness it's probably not going anywhere.

I'm not sure about Canadian laws on this either, but I believe this person isn't under 18, just pretending in order to get incriminating texts from Yaniv. That's why I'm interested if them starting the sexual convos first matters. Again, not that it applies to Canadian law, but I remember that the faux young teens from the o.g Hansen versus predator made sure to let the predators make the first sexual comments for legal reasons.

From a brief look it appears you can't claim entrapment as a defense in Canada when some random person (not the police\government or someone acting as their agent) tries to trap you. Additionally, even if it is the government trying to catch you, they can apparently do it as long as they have pre-existing reasonable suspicion and they don't actually induce the crime.

Since it's probably some rando and there's plenty of reason to think Jonathan would commit just this type of crime based on prior action, I don't see it applying.

At this point does he even care to go underground? He knows ppl know and he knows the chances of this being legit are beyond 0.. I don’t really think he can help himself. I think we’re dealing with someone who has acted out before and is bound to act out again until he gets caught and faces legit punishment or he gets caught and faces a legit beating.

Either way it’s an.. interesting.. look into grooming behaviors. How someone like that takes an innocent, curious, and trusting kid and then exposes/“tests” them and wears them down little by little. We know this behavior exists but to see ppl use it is awful in its simplicity. How much is just blurted out and how much is calculated? What a miserable fuck. Also, I didn’t get far enough to tell, but does he ever get that wax?

Steph Brown analyses the recent Supreme Court of Canada decision R v Morrison, where the court strikes down provisions of Canada's child luring legislation in the Criminal Code.

Mr. Morrison was charged with child luring under s. 172.1. He posted an online ad on Craigslist seeking sexual conversations and stated that he was interested in younger girls. When police contacted Mr. Morrison online, posing as a 14 year old girl named “Mia,” Mr. Morrison facilitated sexual discussions with Mia, asked for photographs, and eventually arranged to pick Mia up from school. Mr. Morrison was subsequently charged with child luring. In his defence, he argued that he believed that he was speaking to an adult online and was engaged in role play with someone playing the character of a 14 year old girl.

Yaniv can just claim that he thought MandaPanda was a catfish, i.e. an adult role playing to entrap him.

In fact this sort of catfishing would enable him to claim he believed an actual minor he was luring was an adult catfishing him.

I.e. it's unhelpful. Also it fails to meet the minimum standard of lulz.

I am about halfway through the chatlogs, and only made it that far because the images are separate.
I noticed that at first, Yaniv seemed to think Manda was a mtf trans, even after seeing pics.
He was relatively blasé towards her until she made it clear to him that she is a real girl. He got super excited and told her he liked her even better now.
