With the shit state that western comic's industry is in, I am thinking of getting into a manga series but I want to find one that doesn't have lolicon, fanservice and excessive tropes like teenage boy harem fantasies.

I just want a normal good story that doesn't have the worst elements found in animes and mangas, I'm sure there are a few good gems out there.

Planetes, Vinland Saga, To Your Eternity (不滅のあなた) are just a few I can name off the top of my head

For good stories, Domu by Katsuhiro Otomo is a great start. I also like Yomawari Sensei, which is a story about a teacher who takes on the role of guardian for troubled youths, and less realistically there's a short story I like called Canaria tachi no Fune which is about alien abductions. I also recommend anything by Igarashi Daisuke.

BLAME! is interesting. About a guy with a gun in some cyberpunk hellscape. Might be too confusing for general audiences though. It's got a story yet isn't always clear on answering why particular things are happening.

Grabbler Baki is good martial arts manga

What kind of fiction do you usually enjoy? That is going to be an important part of any recommendation you get. If you just want general suggestions, Girls Last Tour, Helck, Otaku Elf, Gunsmith Cats, Dungeon Meshi, Jormungand, and Nausicaa cover a fairly wide spectrum of tones, and genres while fitting the bill of no lolicon/harems/teenaged boy self insert tropes.
I greatly enjoyed this one too.

I have it on fairly reliable authority that "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" might fit the bill.
The manga is better than the anime, but you will be called a redditor either way.

Junji Ito. It's a man, not a manga. Did weird Japanese horror with a lot of gross shit. No retardation, just good horror, decently drawn, his style is slightly less realistic than King of the Hill, I'd say.
Uzumaki is my personal favorite, very Lovecraftian. But his other work is good, too, pretty much all of it. People also like Tomie, but I dunno. Never trust a girl with a Tomie pfp btw

Also, I second Blame! (with an "!")
The guy who drew it was an acrhitect, so the world is full of great chasms and dilapidated giga-commieblock megastructures. Characters are kind of ugly, but it sort of ties into the story. No tranime shit in this one, either, just post-apocalyptic uggo cyborg action and a lot of mystery.

You're probably going to have the most trouble avoiding retarded tropes, the rest is easier to avoid. Stick to mainstream stuff and you're usually good. Suggestions:

Older stuff:
Dragon Ball Z
Yu Yu Hakusho
Mobile Fighter: G Gundam
Sakurai Champloo
Death Note

Newer:
Shield Hero
Dandadan
Demon Slayer
Somali and the Forest Spirit
Goblin Slayer

Fullmetal Alchemist has been the default normie pick/gateway drug recommendation for as long as I can remember, so definitely check that out if you haven't.

Lone Wolf and Cub is getting a deluxe edition (ala Berserk) starting in December. Its a perfect time for anyone who has never read this masterpiece to pick up the series.
