Maniac goes on killing spree while 911 dispatcher lectures caller on gun rights

He was just exercising his second amendment rights apparently. Never mind that he was in the process of murdering three people and setting fires.

"Naomi Bettis called 911 Saturday after spotting her neighbor, who she recognized but did not know by name, walking outside his home with an AR-15 rifle, reported the Denver Post.

However, the 911 dispatcher declined to send police and reminded Bettis that Colorado allows gun owners to legally and publicly carry their firearms out in the open.

Police eventually did respond — but not until 33-year-old Noah Harpham had already shot two women and a man with the rifle that had concerned his neighbor at least several minutes "

That's awful. That dispatcher should possibly be let go. And investigated.

Also, Americans need to learn to handle guns better. Switzerland has a high rate of gun ownership, yet their homicide rate per captita is much lower, and I'm unaware of any rampages or school shootings going on there.

What's the problem here? Some hysterical liberal called 911 just because she saw some white male with a gun exercising his rights.

The proper response to this bullshit was a lecture and an education on the Second Amendment.

People annoying 911 because of some guy with a gun exercising his rights is a serious drain on society.

Idiots calling 911 just because of that should be educated.

Okay, so in this case it actually turned out to be a murderous madman shooting random people. Let's let that slide. In most other circumstances, the 911 operator acted entirely properly.

I wouldn't demonise the 911 operator. A woman called up freaking about over a man holding a gun so they probably just tried to calm her down by telling her about gun laws. They had no idea the guy was planning to kill someone, the operator just thought he was carrying it to show some friends or something.

Normally, I would agree.
But if the guy is carrying a rifle, is visibly distraught, and this is all taking place on Halloween...I'd save the lectures for a bit later.

Why when my country is almost removing its dumb and ilegal gun ban(a referendum in 2004 showed 60% of the people did not want the disarmament statute, the government passed it anyway, claiming you can still purchase a weapon, but you need to prove you need it to a judge, something its nearly impossible.) You dumb Americans kill people? *sigh*

I say we give state sanctioned ar-15's to every american citizen.

That'll cut down on these tragedies.

I feel like we don't know enough, did this guy carry his rifle all the time? Was he a hunter?
There's a difference between "my hunter neighbor or who always carries his rifle has his rifle" and "yeah, my neibhor who I've never seen with a gun seems angry and suddenly has a rifle."

AR-15's are designed for hunting one thing.

People.

Maybe it was a sporterized AR-15

iirc, Switzerland doesn't allow open carry, and the firearms ownership rate is, while substantially higher than its neighbors, still only about half that of the US. Also, it's surrounded by fucking mountains, which must make smuggling guns a pain in the AR-15.

EDIT: Switzerland does allow open carry for private citizens not on active military service, but permits are typically only given to people working in security or related fields, and require both a plausible reason to carry the weapon and passing marks on tests of weapons handling competence and knowledge of gun rules. You do not need a carry permit to hunt.
