Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

Consider myself shocked but Jack Black was good as Bowser. When I first heard he was the voice I thought it was a terrible choice because he has a goofy, wise-ass, sarcastic voice that doesn't fit a big monster like Bowser but he actually tried to make him sound like an intimidating villain. Pratts still not a great choice as Mario.

Also liked the callback to Paper Mario with the spiked balls on Bowsers castle/ volcano.

Looks great, will definitely be keeping an eye on this.

I think everyone knew Jack was going to give this all he's got and give a great performance so I am not surprised about the positive reception.

I seem to be of the minority opinion that I like Keegan for Toad, he's shlocking it up and it's a cute/cursed voice but not too over the top, and honestly I'd rather kill myself than listen to a whole movie with a canon accurate Toad voice.

Pratt idc about, I'm sad they didn't just give the job to Charles, but again a whole movie of ITSA ME MARIO YAHOO WIPEE might be a bit much, though I'm sure such a seasoned VA could tone it down easily enough to not make it annoying.

I found it weird that Jack Black is the only good voice in the ENG teaser, since he's the only one actually 'voice acting' as the character. Everyone else is voicing as themselves, with Chris Pratt is the very obvious one. Nobody learned from the Lion King remake, but eh, big names bring money. How did the fucking Sonic movies got that bit right of getting actual voice actors?
Well, Ben Schwartz wasn't strictly a voice actor as he was probably most famous for his role on Parks and Recreation before he took the roles of Dewey on Ducktales (2017) and Sonic. As for Tails, they used the exactly same VA from the videos games, and I would say they lucked out with Idris Elba as Knuckles.

Mario sounds.... off.
I admit, i chuckled when the penguins throw snowballs at bowser.
I don't hear how he sounds off, he sounds like Chris Pratt talking, which, yknow, is literally what it is.

If the movie really goes for the "origin story" angle, then I don't mind Chris voicing Mario in a plain way. Seems like a good way to make him the straightman of the cast, where Luigi will probably be much more cowardly in comparisson.

Isn't that the usual problem when you get big name actors to voice in animation and they have no idea what to do? I think that in the game Destiny they had to redub the midget from GoT because he was so awful.
Yeah, for some reason hollywood >>>>> actual good voice actors, bit of a shame.

I am immeasurably disappointed that they didn't voice A.I. Bob Hoskins for Mario and Dennis Hopper for Bowser.

I knew it that Pratt's "Mario" voice would just be him with a slight New York or New Jersey accent. Unlike Chris Pratt, Jack Black is pretty experienced in voice acting so I'm not shocked at his versatility.

That said, the animation looks stunning which is even more shocking that this is coming from Illumination. They're known for being quite cheap in animation which helps their success. I'm expecting a visually stunning movie but an overall meh plot and characterization. Looks good so far though.

Ben Schwartz does have a couple VA roles, even a few are main character roles like Randy Cunningham. Idris Elba is either- like you say- lucked out, actually tried like Jack Black (and it fits, I think people forgot Knucks was a genuine 'older' rival to Sonic since it has been so long), or can work as a VA but is more used for his acting chops like Jack again. That said, I haven't watched most of the movies and games Elba voiced in.

For some stupid ass reason I thought this will be a life action movie.
'Mom, can we watch the new Super Mario Bros movie?'
"We have the Super Mario Bros movie at home.'
