Reserving judgement until the movie comes out, but I'm concerned about how they'll portray Peach. The most important thing is that they keep her likeable. Haven't played all the Mario games, but Peach's popularity endures because she's a kind person, never shitting on her companions and/or rescuers. If they change her to be condescending or having a bullshit attitude, I don't think her reception will go over well.

Not that I doubt the movie's plot will be the weakest part of it, but you could guess a lot of this just by watching the trailer.

It's a kids movie about Super Mario. Anything it could do plot wise has been done by other childrens' films. Not to mention that it has to spend some of its time to introduce all of these characters to the audience.

I'd imagine that we're getting a similar situation to the Sonic movie. This one will be serviceable for what it is and, if this movie is successful, the second one will be miles better.

Not to discount this person’s review of the leak, but this also happened on /v/ regarding how they thought Peach should be the real hero of the series

4channers can be right on some cases, but most of the time they can also make practical guesses that just border on being too obvious or too skeptical at best.

I have my doubts on the movie being great since it's by the same writers of those dogshit Minions movies. Sounds like an alright foundation for a Mario movie but it probably should have more focus, the whole "training" montage and journey between worlds sounds kinda shoehorned in. That's assuming the leaks are even true, but it sounds like it lacks narrative drive, and it could have used another rewrites. I'm pretty sure it'll still be the best of these Illumination movies by a long shot, just probably not that "Great Video Game Movie" everyone was hoping for.
