Hot take: I think all the years of being a judge in various American Idol-style shows robbed Adam Levine of any character his voice had on those first two records. He was a bit whiny in that era, but it kind of fit the reggae pop thing the band was going for. Now? Utterly generic and even whinier.
I had stopped listening to anything the band put out for probably like 15 years at the point this happened but I was shocked at how much worse he sounded when they played that Super Bowl.
