Marvel Cinematic Universe

I'm guessing that Taskmaster is a cooler character in the comics, because I know he's a fan favorite who comic fans have wanted to see in a movie for a long time.
I just know of TaskMaster from the Deadpool comics (although he feature most in the Agent X that weird Deadpool spin-off/re-imagining where he was a semi-good-guy). From what I recall he wasn't too bad.
But at this point uninspired villains is the norm for Marvel movies, of the 20-or-so movies we have maybe 3 or 4 interesting villains? At this point it seems they're just randomly picking villains from the comics just for name-recognition (and clickbait 'explain' articles) and for costume inspiration.

I still can't tell if the MCU still just has a lot of hardcore fanatics or if it's reached that weird "lifestyle" point in the general public where everything is just accepted as good like Star Wars.

I used to think it was just the weirdos propping up the last batch of films much like they did with dogshit like Agents of Shield and the Netflix shows but this movie is starting to make me think otherwise because it sounds like absolute tripe.

Guess I'll find out with Eternals?

The upside of being a predictible formula is that everyone knows what they're going to get. People know, when they buy a ticket for a movie with the Marvel logo that they'll be in for a couple of hours of brainless entertainment, which is good enough escapism for most people. Marvel is consistent, if nothing else.

Keep in mind that the box office as we ease out of the pandemic is still hard to gauge, but initial estimates based on Thursday night numbers suggested a $90 million three day take. However, there was a larger than expected drop from Friday, and the current estimate is $80 million. And though they haven’t reported these earnings in the past, Disney says that the movie made $60 million on Premier Access. It will be interesting to see what happens with the first true MCU sequel to come out, which I think is the next Spider-man. I’m not sure if that will be offered as same day streaming, and it won’t be Disney+ if that is the case.

Spider-Man ain't fucking bombing. Next Doctor Strange or Captain Marvel 2 might be better metrics because even the terrible Amazing series at their absolute worst were still clearing 700 million. Spider-Man is a money printer.

Strange 2 and Marvel 2 will probably do pretty good what with Wandavision and Loki hyping up both movies. Spectrum and Ms Marvel carry the latter.

Black Widow box office wise is doing better than I thought it would, though it would have a $60 million opening max but it got just over $80million. Do wonder if covid weirdly helped or if it hurt the movie in America, only been three blockbusters this year so far, Kong vs Godzilla, Fast & Furious whatever number they are up to and now this, so maybe people really want to see some capeshit. The truth is the US box office numbers of the movie aren't that far behind the openings of movies like Spiderman Far From Home, and Doctor Strange, also is ahead of both Ant-Man movies., just a question of how long the legs are now. World Wide it's at $158 million which is good covid numbers but seems very weak for an MCU movie.

Now the big news is they made $60 million from Disney+, which is much better for Disney than the American box office numbers because they don't have to share any of that money with the cinemas and no distribution costs. Do wonder if the numbers keep strong if they plan to do the same with other MCU movies. This also the first Disney+ premier access movie they t put the numbers out for, unknown if this is because it the first numbers worth putting out or due to actors contracts.

I mean, did you seriously think the entire audience for these things were all going to drop it after Thanos? These movies are generally getting more successful, not less. It stands to reason even if the trend wasn't going to keep climbing, they'd hit a successful enough plateau to remain financially viable for at least a handful more.

I don't say these things because CONSOOM CAPESHIT, but because I don't think most of you genuinely understand how much money these things, whether you think are shit or not, actually bring in and how unrealistic it is that the overwhelming majority of the audience who sees them are all going to drop them en masse because of shit like too many darkies in them or one of the actresses said some rambling feminism horseshit. Less than the peak? Sure. But to have been confident it was going to land flat on its face or just barely drag itself to success? Not realistic.

No, I thought covid would have damaged the box office in American like it seems to have done in other counties for this movie. But Black Widow seemed like a movie that would be a hit but not a huge hit to me, Also seems like the movie is undated in China and may not even come out there.

the MCU is mostly good popcorn flicks, outside of the lol captain marvel movie, and should be treated as a series of popcorn flicks and not the Moviebob esque worship it gets by midwits.

My favorite flicks were the Antman and GoTG ones, because they didn't take themselves too seriously and unlike Thor Ragnarok, didn't goof off too much either.

Liked Dr. Strange. Hope the next one's not too bad.

There's this running gag in the movie about a vest with lots of pockets.

I just now learned that it's the vest she wears in Infinity War.

Wow, that beats out even the spectacularly unnecessary "origin" for the bat signal in Batman Begins.

It's like that joke that Red Letter Media made about how Disney is gonna make an entire movie about how Han Solo got his boots or some shit.

Holy shit, where did her boobs go?

Also, what was the bat signal origin again?

I can't believe people think this is a good, profound speech.

It's just a lot of nothing. There's no solution offered. In fact, there is no solution to this problem that's not gonna be unfair to somebody.

I'd have more respect for the show if Falcon just threw up his hands and said, "We're all screwed and it's nobody's fault." It's sad, but honest.

And it's just laughably naive. No Falcon, a senator can't just pick up a phone and feed a million people instantly. The world is a hell of a lot more complicated than that.

"How dare you not have answers for 2 inconceivable events occurring in the course of 5 years DO BETTER."

There's parts of a good speech in there, but it's mostly just performative "do better" like you said. Lets down an otherwise pretty solid finale.
