Been stuck in plat 3-2 for a while now and I think I might found my rank.
These kinda games are not my forte really but ranking has been relatively easy even as a soloQ.
It's been easier on ps5 than pc but sitting at g1 there. I get the feeling people on pc are a bit too invested. The chat turns in to a shitshow (ctrlV) and someone try to drop the game first push back we have.

I don't get that behavior, the match don't start EXACTLY as you wanted it so "gg surrender". I see it as throwing because if youre salty enough to wanna surrender you not gonna be playing your best.
I would say this been a bigger problem on pc/upper gold. People being way too sensitive over slightest hickup and folding like camper chairs.

Imma try to push for diamond, just a ego thing but if I end the season in P1 imma be happy w that too.

Ps. If you wanna pop some blood vessels take a look at the marvel sub on reddit. I saw someone getting offended and yell "gatekeeping" because someone asked people to be good in comp. Kek

Congrats on making it to Plat. SoloQ is a fucking dice roll every time. Who are you playing, or who do you like to play when you have a choice and don't have to cover for all the instalock DPS players ? How are the players in Plat? Actual teamwork or just a repeat of Bronze-Gold bullshit ?

Don't know if they are invested, but there are a lot of salty replies in chat. Which would be somewhat understandable in ranked, but Quickplay is infested with scrubs and tryhards. What a kindergarten.

Busy playing something else, but I am itching to play some more ranked myself.

It's a mixed bag. People start to remember how to play the game more often in plat but you'll often find people that just don't compare and managed to get sneak into plat through sheer luck of having better teammates. Sometimes you get people willing to swap to different characters or even different roles if it isn't working out. Other times you'll get fags that think because they escaped "gold elo Hell", they're actually good and shouldn't have their performance ever questioned. One game I had a trash Wolverine sperg out because someone politely asked him if he can play another character. He swapped to Jeff, solely so he could ult his own team and dive off the ledge with them.

One of the things I'd say Plat rank is known for is that's where the Lord icons (special character icons) start to pop up. They are one-trick-ponies at the character (often ~2 of them per lobby). Unfortunately those OTPs are often not that great at the character still and for good reason: If you've spent the 20 something hours playing just that one character and you're still only plat, you're probably going to be hard stuck plat. However you still need to let them have that character if they have the Lord icon because they are likely immensely dogshit at every other character since they've only been playing that one character. So the Lord icon is less of a statement of "wow, they're great at this character" and more "wow, they suck at every other character". These are the faggots that will sink or save your team. They'll either happen to be pretty good with that character or they will get counterpicked and are now turbo fucked because they either refuse to swap to another character or they'll perform even worse with a different character.

This is like some Lord Black Panther going against a triple support+Namor team, so he's getting shutdown every time he goes in and his hero pool is nonexistent, so he can't play characters like Moon Knight to counter that comp or at least a Magik that will survive much longer against triple support and can at least distract them for a long time.

Thanks!
I'm support so mostly rocket raccoon or C&D. I try to get some squirrel girl in and the plan is to start dabbling in tanking. Since people still dont wanna play vanguard i assumed that would benefit me (sneaky sneaky).

I get that people wanna win, fully understandable but theres a difference between wanting to win and be a sperg i would say. If its not gg 1 min in it's reporting because you're not good enough.
Saw some dude say that if he has a losing streak of 2 he either turn off or go in to qp and it seemed like solid advice.

On what @Edgy But Dull said about lord icons.
I'm a lord rocket because a lot of times in lower levels people didn't really play heal so kinda got "stuck" with him. But to my own defense I rather see a lord healer or lord tank icon when grouping up then a lord DPS getting shut down hella quick.

One of the problems w marvel rivals is that there's no good training mode. There's no point in taking heroes to qp and think you will get better, ai is not good either.
in qp you learn the caracther but not how to properly play them.
I deranked myself from G1-G3 just playing around and see what worked in comp situation. The same heroes I've gotten mvp with multiple times in qp was sinking the team badly because there's a difference between playing against bots/people fucking around and sweaty comp nerds.
Any of you guys that have any suggestion on how to do it?

Can't say i'm especially good at the game but i can generally do a good job of support, with the occasional squirrel girl or some such for variety. Tried playing Star Lord and Punisher, and while they have their uses, i don't know man, trying to dink away HP in this game with machine guns feels like such a waste of time when the opponent likely has two healers shoved right up their ass.

The women in cartoons in the 1960s to early 2000s era were drawn hot as well. And anime as well had hot women for those eras.

I can't figure out the thought process that logically goes from "that women is hot" to "time to cut off my peepee".

I think it might be the goy slop food additives and cultural changes that might be causing the troons. Big Pharma also likes the profits from it.
I think it's more that at some point these people had to fully self-insert as a character, to the point where they can never move on from it. where as most normal men would probably just pick squirrel girl because she is an insanely useful character if you're attacking the bomb and the enemy team is stuck in a small hallway, or cloak and dagger because she seems to be op as shit at support, and her multiple personality disorder is useful for escaping if a black panther or wolverine or a tank flanks you, or Mantis cause she's fairly versatile, with the hotness being a bonus.

In other words, don't think too hard about that kinda shit just enjoy the playstyle or game or whatever.

Yeah, quick play absolutely does fucking NOT help you learn how to play the game beyond basic controls. Been wanting to try other heroes but the only real way to actually get good at them is through competitive, which is such a gamble.

Well I would say there are some answers/arguments/anecdotal evidence, whatever you wanna call it, to that question.

First is that you can't really do anything about it. Let's say you are playing a good Captain America, jumping into the enemies backline, disrupting the healers, forcing attention to yourself, not dying and disengaging. Your impact or success still largely depends on your team. Do they push when you have the attention? Do the healers try to keep you alive? Do your DPS players focus the right targets ? If you are playing the most intense and sweatiest game ever, but your team is marveling at the sky and eating crayons, it doesn't matter.

You can of course do what all good fighting game players do and watch your replays. Trying to discover your own mistakes and what you can do better next time. That certainly helps, but it is a team game, after all.

Sometimes you just have a shitty round. Happened yesterday to me. First game, we get decimated. Enemy team is calling us bots. Second round, a complete reversal. Nobody changed characters. But we just played better. Happens.

You can try to ask players to switch characters / insult them and tell them you will do a better job. Seen both happen. And suddenly you are the best team ever. Same with the "gg after a 1" people. Something clicks, and suddenly they stop throwing and play amazing. Insulting/motivating your team can help. But often it's the individual player's mindset that needs to change. Can happen on a whim or never.

And as far as I can tell, speaking about Bronze-Gold regarding ranked and QP, doesn't matter. Too many fragile people who just can't take the loss and then play the next game with a neutral mindset. Always easier to blame someone else than to reflect on your own mistakes.

tldr: Character/ team comps can make a difference, but I think it's the mentality that makes the biggest impact on how your team will perform. Hope you can influence that somehow, and just try your best.

Can't say i'm especially good at the game but i can generally do a good job of suppor
Yeah, its a forgiving class. You dont have to have that many kills to be of use to the team. Ok, there are a bit more pressure on the supports who can actually deal damage but players being rage apes because they don't do 50k healing plus come in w 30kills is just retarded anyways.

In other words, don't think too hard about that kinda shit just enjoy the playstyle or game or wwhatever.
eah, quick play absolutely does fucking NOT help you learn how to play the game beyond basic controls. Been wanting to try other heroes but the only real way to actually get good at them is through competitive, which is such a gamble.
Yeah, just feel that I'm a bit locked because being higher than bronze people expect you to know more than one carachter and i can do... ok maybe but not as good as I "should" and that's a bit frustrating for everyone since I'm 90% the reason we lose in those matches.

People say they gonna report you for throwing (people are extremely report happy in this game lol).
Tried quickplay again because people on forums seem to take it SUPER SERIOUS but it's never that. They stand around being confused what a point is and just tard around the map instead of just standing still.
fells like I have to wait for the rank reset before trying to expand my roster seriously.
Qp was better when the game was new because people took it a bit more serious since no one knew what they were doing and tought of it as "real matches".

tldr: Character/ team comps can make a difference, but I think it's the mentality that makes the biggest impact on how your team will perform. Hope you can influence that somehow, and just try your best.

Yeah, the ego is pretty much the same every metal rank from what I've seen and heard people say. Main carachter syndrome galore. It's just taking new heros to comp is the only way to get better but it's the reason matches are lost.
I've been trying to insult people, be nice and whatever in between but when ego kicks in it just become a shitshow lol.
Watching replays is a definitely a good way to get better but it's me having skille issues because being new to a hero.
But yeah, people start throwing after a minor inconvenience is reason to tell them they suck. They usually start playing better out of spite I think.

I think they need to have some sort of middle thing between comp and qp but even if the idea is good it feels kinda redundant. Maybe play around in unranked DOOM mode to get a feel even if its not great for match feel. Watching videos on heroes are good to get the idea but again, it's different to watch someone speak about in and then taking that carachter out for a spin in game.

I have quietly ranked up to Gold 1, without using comms, looking to go even further. It was much slower than bronze to Gold 3 with comms. I am convinced the gunplay doesn't matter as much as the social game does. I'm going to share my cliff notes:

  • Create a positive energy at the start of the game by saying something funny/positive in lobby.
  • Make calls appropriate to your role, call out enemy positions, plays, etc. If you are a tank or a sustain DPS, call out enemies who are low to get your DPS to finish them off. If you are a healer, call out sight-lines, who you can/can't see on your own team to heal.
  • Understand the different sub-roles and play the comp rock-paper-scissors. (This has been the biggest boost to my personal game).
  • Play around your team's ultimates and call out enemy using their ults.
  • Pick up anyone else on your team who is either good or on comms and queue with them. I would take a mid player on comms over a great player who doesn't communicate, ideally, you take both.
  • Know your positioning, learning about the survivability onion has significantly improved my ability to play support. (Second biggest boost to my personal game).
  • For where the gunplay actually matters, go into practice and fuck around with your aiming reticle. For example, I have C&D's aiming reticle zoomed all the way out to properly reflect her auto-aim, and then on top of that I have her crosshair insanely long to reflect the size of her window. Now I never have to guess who the heal/hurt will go to.

I had a Grandmaster player sperg out today during a match in the football mode. I think that tells you everything about you need to know about the playerbase. Main character syndrome indeed.

Something in between with an alternative ranking system could work.

Furthermore, I think there are two things that would make the Ranked mode less of a cesspool. Higher level requirement / some other metric before people can play ranked. Maybe not the smartest thing but whatever.

More importantly, ranking up should take way longer and require significant more wins. Would help to sort players better into their respective ranks. And would force players to learn and work as a team. Because right now it feels like you breeze through matches and rank up and down at an insane pace. There is no real incentive to apply oneself because of the constant whiplash. Doesn't matter if you lose a couple of games in a row. Next day you are probably back at the same spot if not even higher.

I'm also thinking that since the game is pretty new and people go "muh capes" they will stick around for a while and then move on to the next thing.
People who are "hardstuck" (lol) in bronze will probably get tired of the retard brawls that is lowest metal (we all been there,we know ow how bad it can be lol).
I did a custom map with ai and that kinda helped with the aim and getting to know the maps a bit since there was nothing to lose, so can recommend that if you just wanna grt a feel for advantage points and such.

I had a losing streak of 4 games (playing with a friend, stack is NOT easier) and went qp. I kinda forgot it was qp so I played seriously, told my team to stay on point (they listened) and after two easy wins i was in a much better mood for comp again :)

Yeah. It would at least make it easier to get by the lower ranks because even if you are the one constant being in a team w 5 dps who all thinking "imma be the one carry" you're in for a bad time.
I think s 2 will be more even and harder to climb in. I'm looking forward to more even matches, I'm not looking forward to me new limit probably being around low gold lol.

BTW, loved the onion analogy. Great to have in mind!

>i want to be the hot chick
This game is going to create a whole new generation of sex-confused trannies.
The women in cartoons in the 1960s to early 2000s era were drawn hot as well. And anime as well had hot women for those eras.

I can't figure out the thought process that logically goes from "that women is hot" to "time to cut off my peepee".

but chicks suck cock, and that's gay.
It's not a conundrum, it's very simple: Looking at hot chicks is straight and based. When playing 3rd person I'd rather have Black Widow's butt in front of me than Hulk's huge green ass.
Looking at men is gay cringe(unless you mire their physique and want to achieve it, then it's also straight and based).

Now, what's the chain of thought leading from "nice ass lol I'd tear that apart it if I could" to "don't need that dick, guess I'm a woman now"? This I do not know for certain, but I'm relatively sure it involves mental illness.

Played some ranked today, climbed up to Gold 1. In general, people were playing pretty good. But of course you have some insane curveballs. Lord Spider-Man player kept charging into the enemy line and died every single time. Barely won the match.

I'm not a huge fan of a League of Legends style infinite grinder, but having more divisions for the bottom 80% of the playerbase in Bronze/Silver would surely help.
I never played ranked mode in LoL even though I put like 500 hours into the game. So no idea how bad the grind is there, but the constant ranking unranking in Rivals means most players don't have an incentive to get better. At least that is what I would argue. More division would alleviate that issue to some extent, I think.
People who are "hardstuck" (lol) in bronze will probably get tired of the retard brawls that is lowest metal (we all been there,we know ow how bad it can be lol).

Maybe, but if the current popularity of the game and even more potential spikes with certain characters, I am not sure that the lower ranks will change much.

I am surprised that the game has no continue with current group option. Or to be more social within the game. No mentor/junior system or something. Might also help in the long run.

I intend to continue, at least so far, that next Season I start with a Gold rank. But man, the quality of matches is annoying. Really hope that people become a bit less salty the higher I climb.

So far my matches in Plat have been salt free. I think it's the point where most people let go of their egos a little bit and try and focus on the game.

Wait until you get a teammate that asks the 3 elims/10 deaths Lord Spider-Man "hey bud, do you have another character you can play?"
