Temperatures of the Patapsco river for the past week have been a steady 49 F. According to NTSB and Coast Guard calculations you can swim in that for 30-60 minutes before exhaustion and 1-3 hours before death. Boats were on scene within minutes. If you could get out of your car and away from wreckage you'd be cold but probably alright.

Or you'd die immediately from cold shock.

People on A&N write 100 page long rants about how american infrastructure is shit, but the moment a foreigner points it out, its 100 dumb ratings and a multitude of copes and explanations of why a bridge in the 9th largest harbor overall can't account for a cargo ship hitting it at slow speeds.
If this happened in congo, or in china or in india, you wouldn't see such a passionate defense of the bridge and its design and construction.

Port authority, ship's crew, bridge designers, it doesn't really matter, does it? disasters are seldom caused by a single thing, b ut you plan for the worst possible event in your design, or at least that's what i've been told.
 
There is no such thing as the Baltimore-DC beltway. Baltimore and DC have their own separate beltways. This affects the Baltimore beltway only. They were able to put out an distress signal which allowed them to shutdown the bridge the moment before impact which kept cars from crashing in the water. If this had been rush hour, we be talking about 100s dead or missing.

The likelihood of female crew members is practically zero, let alone a female driver.

Tax dodges, liability dodges labor cost cutting, etc, etc. The ship was probably owned by a bermuda llc with investors in london, ny, etc.

It happens all the time. Very few countries demand that their merchant fleet is crewed by sailors from the same country as the ship is registered in.
 
Have American bridge designers not learned from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge collapse?

That was more than 40 years ago.
Im sure the designers who were making the bridge in the 70's learned a lot about how to make a bridge survive being hit by a quabillion ton steel boat from an incident that happened in the 1980's or maybe the time machine was down for maintenance that day idk.
