No article yet as this just happened, but could be big. One of the largest bridges in the world according to Wikipedia.

It had nothing to do with Diversity, it was an asian ship bringing cargo. To be an average poster of this board you must have to be a product of a few generations of incest, sad!
Well, looks like Stonetoss couldn't resist to do that one involving diversity. https://kiwifarms.st/threads/stonetoss-allegedly-formerly-red-panels.58889/post-18040725
Hohol ship captains are horrendous. The hohols make for ridiculously bad seamen. Their captains are also often drunk.
I think of that possibility too but some wise guys even joked then some crew members got the vaxx.

Is the 6 missing/dead only counting the work crew where they already knew the numbers involved? I read here they spotted cars sunk with sonar, and nobody knows exactly how many cars/trucks were on the bridge at that moment. Yes the mayday prevented some from starting across, but how many were already traveling when that was signaled?

I really, really thought that bridges were made to withstand impacts from ships. I just kinda assumed that in this country we required bridges to be able to take a hit. I guess I'm an idiot.
Bridges are designed to withstand minor hits and bumps - but there is not much you can do - engineering-wise without spending 10s of billions - to stop a 100k ton ship, its a ton of momentum.

If the pilot is some Ukie, I bet he was downing vodka on the job like the average slav.
He probably saw the bridge contorting like that bus in Harry Potter and thought it'll be fine.
Usually these harbors have a local pilot driving the large boats due to the busy nature of the port and the narrow waterways with a lot of obstacles. This is pretty typical, at least, for the major US ports.

They are completely wrong as shipping has ran like this for decades and it has fuck all to do with DEI, it’s about getting people who will do hard work cheaper than in the west.
It’s gotten more convoluted as time goes on. People are just now paying attention to this shit when Cruise ship disasters have been caused by nepo hires and third worlds workers for years. The Costa Concordia had the Indian helmsman fuck off back to India and never got caught.

Could the current be calculated and the ship be remotely deactivated?
We can't know for sure, but even if you found a cargo ship computer expert here, glowies wouldn't tell us what they can do.

Still, it wouldn't make sense not to hit in peak hours and not disable the radio if they did.

The hit happened in the dead of night and the ship tried to get out a warning and succeeded.

I also feel like if you want to stuxnet Baltimore, you could target the power grid easier.

These ships are yuge, and stearing them isn't easy.

Well, what I recall happening is that guy fucked off, got tracked down by the authorities who wanted his statement, to which he agreed to give...and then he fucked off again.

Where it gets a bit wild is, because this was info stated in the Internet Historian video about the Costa, in the followup Q&A video enough time had passed that randos on the internet allegedly had actually found the guy. Dunno what happened with him after that but I expect the guy somehow scarpered off again into the woodwork and nobody really cares anymore since everything got pinned on the captain anyway.

What a helluva way to die. That company is about to shell out some massive money to grieving families, and probably to the United States itself.
The company won't shell out shit lol. The ship was owned or contracted by an agency. They're not even worth the damage this caused even with a fleet of cargo ships. This is an agency and they're gonna vanish faster than you can blink. It's their NA counterpart and respective crediting agencies that are gonna get stuck with the bulk of the bills. This company is going to be flat out bankrupt and good luck getting any money out of them. The insurance payouts are going to tank them once the investigation is done and God forbid once they say "maintenance cut corners", you'll never see these people again.

Also Baltimore needs to fuck off with this "nobody died narrative". Nobody fucking believes you.

I wonder if they tried to throw anchors down to stop or slow it down. I have no real ship knowledge at all but what I have gathered is that there seemed to be some sort of malfunction on board prior to the collision. My first thought, if the steering capabilities are gone, would be to throw anchors in the water. I wonder if one side's anchors caught something and the other side drug through sand. If that is what happened- how awful to know that your last ditch efforts to stop or slow the momentum probably made the collision much, much worse.
Anchors? You mean the electronically deployed ones?

In the weeks, months and years that now follow there is one fellow on Youtube, Legal Vices who is a Maritime lawyer.
He is one of the Lawtubers who circled around Nick Rekieta, the winner this year for Lolcow.
I caught a bit of his show this AM and he may be someone to inform in the near future.
Here is a link to his 3 hour vid from the early hours of this incident.
You may find him informative.

Edit: and on top of all that, they didn't go for maximum casualty and hit that bridge during rush hour.
Not every attack needs to be a mass casualty event. Disrupting supply chains is an excellent way to cripple a country (note I'm not saying one bridge destroyed = country grinds to a halt). This could've been an accident or negligence, sure, or it could be a test attack. This is a pretty major port.

What's funny about this is that this incident is 15 minutes from DC by helicopter and there is no indication the Corpse in Chief and Secretary Buttstuff. The most qualified Transportation Secretary ever, are going to check things out and make an appearance.
It would be funny if Trump makes an appearance first like he did with the East Palestine, Ohio train crash. Considering how Baltimore is a blue haven, Pete Buttstuff will probably make a fast appearance.

They aren't going to be able to start work until they know for certain there wasn't anything hazardous that will catch fire, explode, or make lethal gas when submerged. They might just let it sit for a month in case the manifest was wrong.
This feels like little too optimistic. Although the odds of a subsequent accident are low, I can't help but feel this might be rushed. The local port authorities are going to be breathing down their necks to get it done ASAP.
